I have family abroad and have an opportunity to visit them this winter. However, I have to plan around a possible interview and I'm particularly concerned about UC Davis, since it has in the past interviewed around the time I am looking to travel. I am working my trip around a potential early to mid March interview, but after reading that UF is now doing some early interviews for the first time, I am wondering if any UC Davis students have heard anything about the interview dates changing this year?

You should get an e-mail from them sometime this month or early december with the interview dates for this year. They are almost always in March but "never say never and always avoid always!" (as one of our clinical path profs would say...)

You could call the admissions department as well if you need an answer sooner! 🙂

per UC-Davis:

'All applicants admitted to our DVM program must be interviewed by the Admissions Committee. If you are granted an interview, you will be notified via email in February. Interviews will be conducted in person at the School of Veterinary Medicine starting mid-February through late March. We anticipate interviewing approximately 220 applicants. All applicants (accepted and denied) will be informed of our final admission decision via email no later than April 1, 2012.'

I may die a little each minute I wait especially with the interview invite threads cropping up. Damn you UC Davis for prolonging the torture. :xf:

Yes. That was an excerpt from said email. I received it on Nov. 4th to be exact. I would probably call over to the admissions office and follow-up on your application. Can't hurt. They're probably just sending out verifications as they sort through the hundreds of apps that they receive.

No need to be nervous. They got your application. They just have 1300 to go through.

Davis does everything (and by everything, I mean notifications of completion, interview, acceptances, rejections) in batches so there is no need to worry about timing of receiving letters. (unless, say it's the middle of January and you still haven't gotten an application complete e-mail!)

Folks have gotten the application complete in December..I think mine was end of november sometime?

Clin path, you say? That's a neuro thing for us in 2013...

Alas, new curriculum...new associations 😉

...but yes, typically interviews are held in March but can start in late February. Don't expect to have too much time to make your travel plans to Davis once you get an interview invite. I received my invite on February 11, 2009, was up in Davis on the 20th for the Interview Orientation and then back on the 27th for my interview -- all in February.

Lol - yeah..... There was a rather amusing lunch talk the other day where the lecturer asked what year a certain topic was covered (pharmacology or something??) and I'm sure they thought we were crazy cuz half the lecture hall said "first!" and the other half said "second!".....the 2nd years then proceeded to glare at the first years like we were a bunch of idiots....*sigh*

Think it's an Aussie thing actually, pretty sure we heard it in hematology too.

Well, don't forget that Dr. Vernau (hematology) is married to Dr. Vernau (neuro)...and Dr. Knipe is definitely not Aussie and she says it all the time...

Not sure that I can explain a clin path prof's use, but I know that I've met various Davis DVMs who graduated years ago who use that expression regularly and attribute it to Dr. LeCouteur

Who knows where it started, it's just funny that generations of vet students at Davis use that expression 🙂

It was Dr. Vernau the clin path - hematology type. We're in Heme/Lymph/Coag block now.

It all makes sense now 🙂

Both Dr. Vernau's are pretty fantastic 🙂
