I applied for this back in Jan 2010 and was not able to get a lot of information from the personnel people who were taking the information and applications.
As far as I understand with the forming of the Army Public Health Corp in Oct of 2010, the Veterinary Corps became part of PHC. The civilian jobs as veterinarians would have encompassed what typically were the duties of a Vet Corps officer at the installation level which would include animal medicine of military dogs and servicemembers pets in the limited service VTFs at the installation level. Also some sanitary inspection duties of food establishements would also be part of those duties. I think they did this because of the greater consistency of service when you have civilian DVMs versus Vet Officers who are transferring every few years. In my mid 90s years as a Vet Officer, the Vet Corps was already hiring civilian DVMs to work in VTFs on a part-time to full time basis depending on the size of the VTF. I was very eager to get into this job as I like the people on the bases and am a fairly good food inspector. I think it is still a work in progress at this point.
