my 2 cents: 🙂

if you haven't ever experienced it... how can you really judge...?

never try to find perfection in anyone... you'll just end up hating everyone!

I'm in no way trying to be a meanie 😛 and mean no offense, but we talked about this in a philosophy class once and I found it interesting...

Someone brought up serial killers, rapists, theives, drug addicts etc -- does it still hold that if you haven't experienced it, how can you judge? If so, then killers, theives, and rapists would run our courts.

But anyhoo, my personal dogma is that I don't mind what people do as long as it doesn't harm others. Let's just get along! 😀 And I agree no one is perfect! My favorite bumper sticker: Wag more, bark less!

Edit: I guess I can check one box, the one about barfing. Drinking any R-OH, even just a litte little bit, makes me throw up and break out (wheeee.) ... my body doesn't tolerate it at all. Thus the 100% sober.

ha! i just saw that for the first time recently... i stole one from my boyfriend to stick on my laptop with all the other stickers. fantastical.

There's nothing wrong with going out every weekend. If people can do that and still get good grades, I don't see why anyone should judge that. I go out every weekend and I think it's great for stress relief and to relax/have fun

"Going out" every weekend is a lot different than "get plastered every weekend and puking and passing out" 😉

Hey, Wisconsinite.. I know this is random.. but do you call it a bubbler? As a non-native Wisconsinite, it just gets to me. Oh, and when you lend something to someone, do you "borrow" it to them? 'Cause you guys are crazy.

On topic.. I never understood the party mentality myself. Just seems stupid. To each their own.

Hey Poke -- I think that because my parents are from MI, I don't say a lot of the fun things. Not bubbler, but water fountain (yes, just like those things in a park! -- and actually, this might be more a regional w/in WI thing, we talk about this too), and I have too much respect for the english language to "borrow" someone something. Maybe its more a northern thing? I'm from Madison (south-central). I did grow up saying pop (ie like Coke, Sprite, etc) but after being on the east coast for four years, properly say "soda". And I thought my mom was nuts when she said pop over break -- literally looked at her and was like "WHAT did you just say?" That's how you know its time to move back to the midwest. And now I'm rambling about Wi.

Just wondering, did you get that from the "you know you're from wi when ..." on facebook? because i've NEVER heard someone say the borrow thing ...

okay, back to the whole party debate. And WTF makes a good point, just because I have drank/drunk too much before, does not mean I do it every weekend. And going out also doesn't mean blackout (for me -- ask others here, and that's another story 🙂)

haha, No. My SO says it and he's born and raised Wisconsinite. I'm a West-Coaster, myself. 🙂 I did read those a while back, though, to make sure it wasn't just him.

Clarification -- "here" refers to Cornell, not this forum. Just thought I'd preempt that one.

The "pukers" have reached more than 100...hahaha

I agree. I have a friend who used to judge others for drinking because she had never drank before. She decided to try it and now she's all for it. Now she regrets all of those comments she used to make😉

I checked the 'vomiting from drinking too much,' but I've thrown up after (these all being separate nights): 1.5 light beers; 2 rum & cokes; 1 Bailey's shake; 3 shots of Bailey's; a few sips of champagne, one sip of beer, and a bit of Bailey's; um, I could probably go on. I can vomit from very little alcohol, what would be a perfectly reasonable amount for another person my size, and sometimes I handle it fine and sometimes I don't. There are probably only 2 occasions I can think of where I actually drank an amount that was proportionately large for my size, and thus my getting sick those times was REASONABLE (though it still wasn't anything like binge drinking, we're talking a small glass of straight schnapps vs. 20 shots of tequila).

My stomach just hates me. You don't have to be a partyer to get sick... sometimes you think you'd like a little drink while chilling calmly at home, and then your stomach is ******ed. -_-

Vomiting from drinking too much, hear hear! Most notably the Saturday night after my K-State interview. I needed a release... and I got one!

That will be me w/ my mom in MN this saturday. If you're in the area, you're welcome to join us. And yes, I drink with my mom, I'm from WI, what do you expect 🙂

well, i would definitely draw the line between serial killers, rapists and thieves! i draw the line when it affects other people. but i understand what you are getting at! 🙂 definitely an interesting philosophical question though..

Hey now, you have to get used to drinking in Manhattan (most notably Aggieville), if you are coming to k-state. KU is in Lawerance, and we are less than fond of them. Just say no to the chickenhawk!

That's where I run into a problem. I have many very close friends (KU alumni) living in Lawrence and, as such, I own a TON of Jayhawks gear. I've been a KU fan since before I started the vet school application process! I hope they won't rescind my acceptance offer!!!!! 😱

In some places in the US, for example Ann Arbor, if you get caught with pot it's only a 25$ fine for your first offense, 50$ for your second, and 100$ for your third. Proposal C made non-medical marijuana possession, control, use, selling or and giving away punishable by no more than a $100 fine. Plus, it's only considered a civil infraction rather than a misdemeanor or felony.

So, in some states it's actually economically wiser to smoke pot than drink underage.

I guess your correct, but its crazy that as much people that puked from drinking have smoked pot, it is an illegal drug and if caught with it there are far harsher punishments then with a beer.

We had a narcotics/dog fighting officer come in to talk to our ethics class the other day and he said pot has basically been "de-criminalized", whatever that means.

It means it's still against the law but not really enforced. I think the trouble of arresting the person is greater than any repercussions so they don't even bother anymore. At least that's how I've always taken it to mean.

Decriminalized means exactly what it says, that it is no longer treated as a criminal offense. Instead it is handled as a civil infraction like a parking ticket. Just pay the fine and you are on your way, no arrest involved.

Job and school applications never ask about civil infractions. They only care about "criminal" activity.

I *heart* organic! I haven't taken any organic since last spring (I took advanced organic for fun 'cause I'm cool like that 😎) and now I'm taking biochem and I got SUPER excited when I saw all those hydrocarbons again! *sigh* 😀

I put "whatever that means" to state that I didn't know whether technically it was still illegal or laws had actually been changed to make it less of an offense. I took his comment to mean that the laws were still on the books, and cops just weren't expending the effort to punish offenders anymore.

In a lot of states you can lose your vet license for a felony like DWI/DUI. If you drive drunk, you should probably quit drinking, rather than risk your career.
