Another August MCATer here. I'm riding this grade on EK materials. Thinking about the CBT test. here's why

(fyi im not high-jacking thread)
10 minute break is optional
another 10 minute break is optional
the 1 hour lunch is optional
the writing sample is a "typing sample" (get through it quick to save mental power for biological sciences)
you can click 8 times (to mark answers) about 132549.344x faster than bubbling in 8 answers
i will "forcefully attempt" to bring a ream of paper for unlimited scrap. =)
oh yeah. and theres an ON SCREEN TIMER all the time =) oh yeah (no more looking at your "wristwatch" only

EDIT: when can you register for the CBT august test?

the click time advantage for marking answers pales in comparison to the fact that people read on paper faster than they do on CRT monitors. So until everyone is on CBT, i'll take paper.

opinion. (just as was mine)

i wonder if "people" read better on blue paper... or white paper?

Socal here too. Also in Riverside...I know what you mean by the 🙁

I may need a bit more review, so I may wait for the computer test in April.

August MCAT here as well - had been studying for the April exam hardcore - until poof, b/f I knew it I only had three weeks left! With scores in the mid-20's I opted to wait until August. :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: to everyone taking it in August 2006. I am from Houston myself.

August here first time. I started studying last Aug but kind of knew I wasnt going to take it. Now, I need to start studying asap after my final on wed. I really hope there is enough time I need and want a pretty good score. I'm going to do all content review until Kaplan starts on the 31st. I will aslo be in the lab all summer working on my masters thesis. Even more stressful, I am a bridesmaid in my friends wedding this summer (Aug 5th) so there goes that Saturday. The shower is on a Saturday, and the bachelorette party (which I am planning!!!!) is on a saturday. I need those days to practice!!!!
🙂

oh one more really stressful thing, my advisor is having me apply in June with no scores!! I know I cant talk myself down, but I keep thinking of alll that money I am going to pay and what if my MCAT is terrible? Must think positive🙂

hey...do you guys know if spots are likely to fill up in large cities?
...i.e. is it like the SAT where you wanted to sign up early to get a place somewhere close to you?

thanks!

Hurray for August! I set up a beautiful study schedule on excel (for Kaplan material) last week but have not held to it. I'm finding it difficult to crank out the studying after working a full 8 hour day... I'm thinking of cutting down on my job to part time in July/ August.

I took the April MCAT 2005... even though its been a while since I studied hardcore, I find myself slightly repulsed by the material.... Its just hard motivating myself to study b/c I'm waitlisted at UCLA and am holding out for a miracle!

Well I live in a large city and yes, spots do fill up. One of my friends had to travel pretty far because she signed up late. IMO, you should sign up as early as you can if you really want to write in a particular area ... 🙂

anyone studying hard yet?

I'm try...ing. 😀 I have my first mock mcat next saturday and I'm pretty behind in my work already (hehe ... slept pretty much the whole day today 😳) , so I have to step it up a notch or five this week. 😛

The making of study schedules instead of studying. A classic favorite of mine! 😀

I've started studying for August but still haven't decided to go ahead or wait til 07 instead hahaha...

August MCAT for me! I'm considering the CBT because I "write" much better and faster on a computer. Plus I took the GRE on computer and found it to be a very positive experience.

Yeah, I wish we had the option of just doing the essay on the computer. I like paper for verbal 'cause you can mark stuff but I definitely type faster than I write. Oh well, I'm just glad I got in at the tail end of the paper days. 😳

Just wanted to see who's out there and say hi. 😀

Anyone is Socal? Any mellow bruins?

Is anyone applying this summer as well? Would you recommend it??

I've always been under the impression that they don't look at applications until they're complete (i.e., have the scores and everything). If this is the case, and I really think it is, then applying prior to getting your scores doesn't yield any advantage and might be a waste of money if you're applying to schools that are well out of your stats range.

Maybe email the schools you're interested in and see what they say??

August mcatter too... i think

anyone else plan to apply this year?

I'm taking the MCAT in August as well. I've been studying since January for this test 🙁 Physics is NOT my strong point so I am worried about the physical sciences portion.

Yeah but everyone sucks at physics. I wouldn't sweat that too much.

I'm sweating the fact that I have no strong point.

Hey Bruin, just wanted to say but I'm not taking the MCAT in August. I taught for Kaplan at the westwood center though. I took the test at Long Beach City college, if I remember correctly. I go to med school in Washington DC. I miss L.A. I *heart* UCLA. (hopefully you're not sitting there saying to yourself "why does she think I care" right now)

 How was long beach in terms of a testing site? Was it air conditioned? I melt easily.

It was ok, sucky part was the drive from Westwood. 🙂
I think they had AC, I don't remember getting hot and I have the same melting problem, but I also took it in April before the crazy summer heat! Good luck and give L.A. a hug for me!

August MCATer here. I am going to start studying about next week... This is going to really suck.

well that's a lousy attitude to start out with! 🙂

August MCATer from Louisiana here! I'll wish you luck if you wish me luck! :luck:

So, we all what we'll be doing on Aug. 19th. But has anyone else already started making plans for what they're going to be doing on Aug. 20th?! (If I know that I have something fun to do afterwards, maybe it'll make this easier... kinda like knowing you have to go to the dr and get a shot, but your mom will buy you ice cream afterwards.) I'm debating b/t the start of a wild vacation... or sleep.

If I'm reading correctly, you should be able to sign up for any of the CBT sights they plan to start using full time in '07?

Is this incorrect?

If so, I might look into taking it on the computer since it would keep me from having to travel over an hour to the test site for the paper based test.

My intention is to head straight from the test center to the Lake of the Ozarks.
