AUHS pharmacy school is a complete scam. They invited me for an interview. They sent me an email only 10 hours before the interview to inform me that I can't proceed with the interview without passing the wonderlic test. I never heard about this exam before. We were only 4 students, only 1 student passed. We did not see anyone for an interview. This school is only about collecting money. All students must take a serious action towards his nonsense school!!!!!!!

Another school in California? I have never heard of wonderlic test. A search in wikipedia tells me it's also use for NFL's scouting combine. Interesting.

Sound like a scamming process. I wonder if you can report on that school? I have never heard of this wonderlic test before... O.O

I did a quick look and I found this. This was a pharmacy technician program, not pharmacy.

I actually went to their pharmD info session. I remember them saying to take some test for or with your interview, or along that line. Their admissions application checklist in your application package does list the wonderlic test as a requirement. But it's the first pharmacy school to require such test that I know of.

I don't think their pharmacy school should be able to survive since the OC/LA area already has too many pharmacy schools. 4 schools are more than enough already. Possibly the highest rate of saturation in the country.

They want to have students not limited to be working in the US but overseas! LOL! And you need to do medical missions overseas as graduation requirement.

This is a joke. I doubt more than half of the students will find an intern position to attain 900 hrs needed to take the naplex.

I am a p4 who just finished interview day and majority of chains aren't even looking to hire.

Shame on these so called pharmacists who do this to our profession. Half of most job classes don't even have a job offer. This is nothing short of a travesty

Hiring? No sir. Even worse, they're cutting hours of the current pharmacists.

I remember a student asked the dean about how they're gonna compete with usc, western, and surrounding schools for rotations. She said that's not her job to find those, its Mr. Bob's job. Next question.

3 year = accellerated saturation ---> no jobs, decreased salary, lower standards, etc.

Wonderlic is a basic skills test that measures a person's problem solving skills. It is widely used in employment processes and other methods of application, including schools. If you don't know what it is and if you've never heard of the Wonderlic entry exam, then you haven't done your research. I've been to the information session for the Pharm D program for AUHS and they seem very research orientated and they expect very professional and prepared students. They also mentioned the Wonderlic before the interviews. It's not a scam, it's just a school with higher standards than others for higher quality students.

This school is always on the radio advertising for their schools. I'm not sure how "higher quality students" (academic-wise) they are going to get considering they said on the radio that you only need a 3.0 (from HS) to get accepted for their 3 year bachelor's program. And as long as you maintain a 3.0 in the bachelor's program, you are guaranteed a seat in their pharmacy class. They even said that you should still apply even if you have less than a 3.0 b/c they look at the whole person and not just on grades. But I guess it's "okay" to lower standards since they are just looking for their first class and it's hard to find ppl who are willing to be a school's first class.

I think the school is pretty sketchy in general. Both my parents are pharmacists and our house gets a letter addressed to both of them at least once a month asking them to enroll any children they have in the school. Don't even really know how they got our mailing address in the first place.

Also talked to the admissions coordinator through the Virtual Pharmacy Fair and she stated that they have mailing addresses of all registered pharm techs in California and should be contacting them about applying to the school in the very near future.

Those are easy to buy/obtain and are standard practice for new schools. California Northstate in Rancho Cordova did the same thing I believe. I think they bought names/addresses of people who took the PCAT and hit a certain score.

Isn't the Wonderlic the test that gets used in NFL scouting?

So AUHS has higher standards than every other pharmacy school in the country?

Tee hee!

Getting a perfect score on this test is probably a challenge, but just passing it with ease should not be a problem for an average person. This does not assure you will get top candidates but maybe eliminate those who are mentally challenged.

I also went to one of the AUHS info session for Pharm D. The school seemed very professional. They emphasized that they wanted students who could clearly follow directions. I also did research on the wonderlic test and it seems like a very easy straight foward exam.

Wow, talk about a glorified Pharm.D prep school "BSPS".

Even vocational schools like AUHS want to open pharmacy schools now? ACPE and APhA needs to step up their game. :scared:

My experience was different. The financial aid personnel didn't know half the questions that were asked and contradicted herself numerous times in her presentation. She kept saying email those questions to the school. Record keeping was poor since they did not have my name on the list like they should. I had confirmation email. They weren't on top of their game. Professional? Fail. But Dina was a fun person.

ACPE denied AUHS a site visit to obtain Pre-candidate, and told them to try again. If they get denied again this June, they should not be accepting any students as planned. I hope ACPE realizes that this accelerated program will bring the profession down, at an accelerated rate. But AUHS won't go down without a big fight, too much money invested already. They're also planning for MD and Ph.D programs. They're really going all out. If they get the ball rolling, itll be tough to stop them. I sure hope the shortage prediction to care for baby boomers is right if they succeed, or else.

hahahahhaahha did you guys notice the 2 ppl who spoke postively about this program are new members with 1 post? I bet they work for the god damn school.... I don't know how anyone can call this school professional when they pretend to have a legit pharmacy program and charge tons of money for it when they don't even offer Pharm. D.! haha

and for ppl who actually applied to this school, did you guys not do your research before hand?! hate to say this, if you are this careless about your choice of pharmacy school, you shouldn't be accepted to anywhere!

Are you referring to the denial at the June 2011 board meeting (minutes posted on the ACPE website) or the recent Jan 2012 board meeting? Because if it was the Jan 2012 board meeting, it's game over for admitting students this fall- it can't happen.

It's been a rough go of late for certain programs with ACPE- St. Joseph's, Midway, and South (TN) weren't able to enroll founding classes when planned. AUHS might have to join this list as well.

I know right, it's like going on yelp.

Bet you jtn09 and machz get free blowjobs from the school for posting that crap, cuz they're pretty much whoring themselves out on this forum :laugh:

Discuss!

I was referring to June 2011 meeting. Is the January 2012 meeting the last chance? I thought maybe June 2012 was for 2012 enrollment.

AUHS did mention they would be on PharmCAS by January but that didn't happen either.

Can't help but feel glad of the ACPE’s decision 😀

That's certainly some good news -- ACPE is actually denying schools request for precandidate status.

Now if only ACPE can start shutting down bottom tier, under-performing schools at a faster rate than accepting potentially awesome schools then it'll be golden. 🙂

Thanks for the article. This confirms my fear that it's illegal to restrict opening of new schools since no pharmacy organization is doing anything to stop it. Then it seems the only way to restrict new schools is by requiring pharmacy students to complete a residency. But this is only possible when pigs learn how to fly. No such jobs are available since most pharmacists don't need a residency, and not enough spots anyways. Damn it, there's nothing we can do then, is there? except advocating expanded roles for pharmacists. we should be able to prescribe freely if PAs and nurses can do it. but this is going to piss off the MDs like what the "noctors" are doing..lol..sigh
