Hi everyone!

Congrats to those of you that got in! I sent my application over about a month ago and I'm really nervous...I thought I had sent them in early enough but I checked out that list in another post and there are already some accepted students into the Aussie schools!
🙁
I had a small credit card problem, but that should have only held back my application a few days, but I got confirmation saying they were being processed now...

For those that got accepted, what did you send in your application package (if you didn't apply through VMCAS), and what were your marks/experiences?

Thanks 🙂

P.s.
I read on the website (at least for Murdoch) that offers are made a month after the closing dates....so how did you guys get in so early!?....the first closing date is March 31!!?!??! 🙂

Congrats again!!

Forgot to add in my PM, I was applying for entry starting February 2009, I am already 5 weeks into the academic year. I am assuming you are applying for 2010 entry? If your closing date was March 31 and you got your app in before that, I am sure you will be fine 👍

Hey littlehooves,

good luck on the application(s)! Don't worry too much, if memory serves me Tuttley and the other one or two Aussie applicants that have been accepted are Australian residents so they a) may have different application cycles b) different priority of choosing those applicants c) there's a separate number of international students chosen for each class year

Also, sometimes Murdoch's acceptance letters don't always tend to follow that '1 month' rule, but if it goes beyond 1.5 months definitely follow up on the application process. I know my roommates application got shuffled into one of the program admins paper pile on his desk when she asked some questions about her pre-reqs... and went missing for a couple months 🙂

Generally speaking you need to send in your transcripts (sent mine including High school), resume, recommendation letters X 3, and a short essay (500 words I think) on your education background, career goals, why you want to be a vet, etc. I also sent a typed sheet stating which classes I was currently enroled in.

Tuttley, did you end up at UQ?

Hey Nexx,

Once I wittled it down to UQ vs Murdoch, the decision got tough, but I ended up at UQ in the end.

Well after much delay I finally sent in my Aus-Uni applications as well 😛 for Feb/Mar 2010 intake. So far it seems I got notice from my agent company (AustraLearn) that it might take 4 to 8 weeks for the unis to process the app, so hold on!

I'm guessing some got really early notices cause it is allowed to apply in advance. For the online App for Murdoch, I was given years: 2010, 2011, ...up to 2013 (I think)!! 🙄

What I sent, varied by universities... Sydney & Melbourne via agent, Murdoch independently.
To all:
Cover Letter (usually the app and checkoff list since I used an agent)
Transcript ("Tertiary" and HS)
Curriculum Vitae
2 LoRs (I'm thinking I should've done 3...)
Letter for Courses in Progress
Animal Science Degree & Microbiology Minor Curriculum

To Sydney:
Commitment Statement (Packet off their website) + any additional verification documents
Petition for Advanced Credit

To Murdoch:
Personal Statement (500 words: why a vet and how previous work experience and studies will help you in terms of success as a vet)

Waaaa. Thanks guys!!! Yes, I'm applying for Feb 2010, so I definatly got all anxious when you had already been notified....I called the schools early on back in Jan-ish and they said that they won't even start looking at the Feb 2010 applicants until February/March of 2009. 🙂 AND no I didn't realize you were Aussie residents 😛 So I'm sure its a bit different 😛.

Okay yes, as for U Syd, i did NOT send in that commitment statement...I didn't know it was there. 😛 I sent in all the same type documents to all 3 uni's (Transcripts, course descriptions, resume, personal statement and reference letters)....it was really frustrating trying to figure out what exactly they wanted, so I kind of cheated a bit and joined Australearn to find out what documents I would need, then I sent my applications on my own. I also recall calling the uni's and they didn't mention the commitment statement...do you think they would ask me for it or hold my application back if I sent a detailed resume? Because my resume basically has everything animal related I did.... 😛 *nervous*!!

Anyhoo, thanks everyone for your input!! 🙂

P.s. I didn't send in my HS transcript as I've been out of HS for 5 years... 😛 I didn't think they would pertain.. 😛

Hey Nexx,

Once I wittled it down to UQ vs Murdoch, the decision got tough, but I ended up at UQ in the end.

Well Tuttley, we just can't talk any more now since you aren't coming here!

How are you liking it up there, enjoying the vet program? I've gotten to hear a decent bit about UQ as a couple of your students keep finding their way over here for various events and one of your international 3rd years transferred into our class this year b/c the Gatton extension was taking so long (which I thought I read somewhere it was supposed to be up and going in the next couple months)

Littlehooves, I wouldn't worry too much about the HS transcripts. I just sent mine as extra info without asking them about it. As for the USyd commitment packet, you may want to call them and ask. I would think the info you sent them probably covered a good chunk of what they were looking for, but you never know--maybe just confirm with them that your application pack is complete?

Now for 30 or so days of waiting 🙂

Yeah I agree, and I figured I should call them too....U Syd is sooooo hard to get a hold of though- they never ever pick up the phone 😛 my calling card only has so many minutes on it! 😛 I will have to try emailing too, but again they tend to take a while to reply 😛

🙂 Thanks 🙂 🙂

Okay the commitment statement seemed repetitive for me...as a lot of it was covered in the CV. I think I read on another board like back in October that someone didn't send it in either and they were judged without any issues.

I mean all it really was:
Checklist of different techniques and procedures done or observed on different animals (cattle, sheep, swine, dogs, cats, and poultry)
2 short answer sections:
1.) Any other procedure not listed that you've done, or section to explain what may have prohibited you from gaining more experience.
2.) Limited word section for procedure you've done and its effect on welfare of animal.

In the end they asked for attachment of documents as "proof" for everything you've done, stating that faculty has the right to refer back to it during field work.

Attached the document with the post!

Try contacting Shirley Ray? [email protected]
(She might be out though...since I got an automated message a while back)

Thatnks TrillyTina!!

Yeah I had a look at the sheet on the website, and it was just a giant check list....my resume basically has everything i've done- and frankly I haven't done alot of the stuff the sheet listed (cow/sheep/goat/etc stuff). I'll try emailing her though...who is she? lol thanks!! 🙂

I actually was given the contact email by a cousin 😛, but she's listed on the site as 'Faculty Manager.' Does the equiv to an Admin. Coordinator?

Good luck! :luck:
