So I am applying for this summer research grant and one of the application sections requires a 'biographical sketch of the applicant.' I am kind of at a loss of where to begin... Has anyone ever done one of these before? How far back do you go?

It just sounds cheesy every time I start out with "I grew up in..." etc.

Any advice?

"goose-d hails from XYZ City....blah blah blah" You can talk about high school and your interests or just skip it and go to college. Definitely talk about college and medical achievements, interests, organizations you participated in, etc.

1st or 3rd person?

3rd person would have a nice offical and elevated tone. Mr. Goosed was born in....

I'm in a similar situation. I'm applying for a scholarship given by a particular specialty, so I made a list of the things that I did that applied/were related to that specialty. The furthest I went back was to mid-college. Then I wove a story that linked them all. Two paragraphs and I was done.
