Hi all,

Are there residencies in infectious diseases and epidemiology for DO students? How do DOs fare when applying for jobs in the WHO or CDC?

Thank you!

To answer the first part of your question, I'm pretty sure infectious disease is a subspecialty of internal medicine so going into that as a DO wouldn't be an issue. Also I interviewed at VCOM and a good number of ther students did infectious diseases after their internal medicine residencies according to this book they gave us.

ID is in fact a subspeciality of IM.

Infectious disease is an easy field to get into; don't worry about it. Pathology followed by a microbiology fellowship is also easy to do as a DO.
