Just got an early offer of admission by email! It's going to be so hard to have to turn it down 🙁 I loved the school and all the people I met so much! But I loved the University of Minnesota a lot too, and that has the advantage of not requiring me to move to a foreign country. I've done the living on a Canadian island thing before (although on a much more temperate island than PEI...) and got the whole living in another country thing out of my system. And let me say, moving to Canada is just not as easy as it sounds... But if it weren't for that, I'd be at AVC in a heartbeat.

To everyone still waiting to hear, don't despair! You should be hearing back soon. And I wish the best of luck to all of you!

Congratulations on both of your acceptances! I don't blame you for a second- moving to and living in a foreign country is a pain in the rear. At least Minnesota will make you feel like you're in PEI 😀

Whoa! Congrats!!!

I'm surprised they are sending offers out already.. My interview is Friday. I am leaving tomorrow and just had a major panic attack because my passport is MIA. Luckily I have a nexus card which will work but I would feel better with my passport....but hey, what trip is complete without a complete breakdown, mechanical or otherwise??

Congrats again dovelover! Makes me extra nervous about my interview 🙂

I got an early admission offer too! YAY!!!! :soexcited::soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

Looks like I'll be seeing some of you in August! I absolutely loved the school when I was there for my interview, and I can't wait to actually be a student there!

And TooLove, don't worry! If you used the SDN feedback to prepare, you will be more than ready to smoke this interview!

Congrats BlackDog!! Im so excited for you - hopefully we get to be classmates!

In the meantime I'm going to throw up 🙂

Congratulations to those accepted! Good luck on Friday, TooLove :luck:

Congrats dovelover, whether you come here or Minnesota. And congrats to you too, BlackDog - see you in August! 😀

Hope you have a safe trip, TooLove and best of luck tomorrow!

GreenButterfly - Sorry, I don't have those numbers. Best of luck though! Interview invites will be out before you know it, I know the wait is agonizing!

Congrats BlackDog!

I'm leaving for my interview tomorrow soon and I'm getting nervous but excited! I want to do really well because I'd love to go to AVC! I'm wondering once I finish interviewing if they will still review the rest of my application until a final determination, or if the only thing that's holding them back is how I do in my interview...

I was wondering about that too. Currently en route to PEI! :luck:

Congratulations to the internationals who have received good news! I hope to be joining you in August.

@TooLove, I'm jealous that your interview is on Friday! You don't have to sit for over a month (in agony) waiting to know if you are accepted. 🙂 My interview was January 23 so I'm literally going crazy over here!!

Wishing you the best of luck (but at the same time hoping you flop it so it makes one more chance for a spot for me). Oh please! Like everyone else wasn't thinking it 🙂

Sorry to who this offended. I don't want to be the sour apple on the forum. I just wanted to get a giggle.

I just wanted to pop in and comment that this makes a very interesting first post. Everyone is really supportive here and if we truly felt this way we would be more like the Pre-Allo forum. I would want to earn a place based on my qualifications and merit, not because someone else screwed up. 👎

Hi everyone. Do you know if they email acceptances, snail mail, or call?

and I agree ESCALLA… that first post was in poor taste.

I won't be flopping anything. If I don't get accepted it was because there was someone better than me who deserved a spot.

I apologize. I'd retract the comment entirely but that'd be cowardly of me. You all make valid points. Again, I apologize.

👍👍

Personally, I'm secretly hoping you kick ass in your interview. I'd rather have a supportive SDNer for a classmate!

Hi everyone. Do you know if they email acceptances, snail mail, or call?

They're emailing the internationals, and I'm assuming its the same for Canadians as well.

It's cool, we all know how competitive it is to get in. Just keep in mind that the best part of this forum is the sense of community and support. I know it sounds cheesy but it's true🙂

I actually really appreciate you saying something. You're completely right. I come from a very competitive university, family, etc. I need to keep in mind that not all of society works this way. I never meant to come off the way I did. In fact, most of the posters on this forum all seem amazingly competent and judging by what I've read everyone has a great chance.

On a happier note, does anyone know how difficult it is to bring a dog with you to Canada from the US or what the process is like?

No worries!

I bring my dog up to school with me, as many students from the US do and its simple. All that is required is an up to date rabies vaccination (paperwork from your vet). I've crossed back and forth numerous times with her and they've never asked for the paperwork or even looked at her, but I always have it just in case.

Finding pet-friendly housing on the island isn't too tough, either. There is at least one good dog park and a lot of people meet up on weekends or after school for doggy play dates 🙂

OMG!! Congrats to the two of you that got accepted!! Be proud of yourselves what an incredible accomplishment! I am dying to get into AVC I absolutely loved it there! Oh boy oh boy fingers crossed...

Approximately what time did you guys hear by the way? I'm freaking out...

I know you're asking about a dog, but I know when I used to take my cat across the border by car/ferry, no one cared. In fact one time the US customs person at the ferry terminal saw my cat in the front seat and was like "and who is that cute little guy?" and then moved on. The only time it was an issue was when my parents flew him home for me so he wouldn't have to endure another cross country trip by car when I moved home. Since they were flying across the border (I flew with him within the continental US once and didn't require this) the airline required a health certificate with proof of rabies vaccine (rabies vaccine is not usually a requirement for cats crossing the border like it is for dogs). I had to spend $100 dollars to have a vet look at him, double check his rabies certificate, and sign a piece of paper. Annoying. So it does depend somewhat on what method of transportation you're using.

Congrats BlackDog!!!!! I really wish I was going to be your classmate in August 🙁 I hate having to turn down schools. I want to go to all three!!!! If only my time turner were real...

Don't freak out! They're only sending out a few early acceptances. The rest will be coming after the interviews are over this week... so hopefully next week! And keep in mind that they only interview about 3-3.5 times as many people as seats, and I imagine a fair number of international students that get acceptances turn them down for practical reasons (like me), so your chances are actually pretty good!

Thank you for the support dovelover! I really wish you the best of luck at whatever school you choose and congrats on having options 🙂

Do you happen to know what they need to look for when they're giving you a health certificate? I have an FIV-positive cat that I'd like to bring with me, and I'm a little worried that I might have some trouble with that. I expect to be driving almost 100% of the time though, so hopefully it won't be a problem.

Well my health certificate says "found clinically healthy and free of external parasites. I believe this animal to be fit to travel by air." So I'm guessing they just have to be healthy enough to undergo something as stressful as flying and don't have any diseases that can be spread by fomite (ie, external parasites). But I would advise that if you ever want to travel by air, consult a vet before you make any concrete plans, just in case.

Here's a good link for those bringing pets in:http://www.inspection.gc.ca/animals...s/pet-imports/eng/1326600389775/1326600500578

You can click on "cat" and "FAQ"- it suggests you may need a HC for flying. I'm assuming the vet would include that on the certificate, but not really sure what they'd do about it. If driving, no problems because, like I said, they don't actually look at the animals (no, I don't know why😕) You could trailer in a rabid moose and I don't think they'd notice.

Obviously I don't condone trying to sneak something across the border but don't be too stressed about it👍

Congrats to everyone who got accepted!! Hopefully I will be hearing soon and joining you guys as classmates 🙂

Thank you for all the awesome pet advice! I actually have aquatic frogs too so I'm wondering how the heck I could possibly drive to PEI with aquatic frogs..... Ohhhh man. All the complications. 😛

Blackdog did you accept your offer!!?? I bet you are so excited! 🙂 maybe tomorrow will be lucky for me and we can be classmates!

Congrats to everyone on their acceptances so far!!!😀

Not yet, but I'm definitely going to! Just waiting for Wisconsin to officially reject me first.

Not to be pretentious, but I feel pretty confident saying I just ROCKED that interview. 😀

Also I was told that admissions is meeting this coming Friday to make decisions, and then it goes to the registrar which will take a few days to send things out.

Really? So we won't find out till the first week of march?

That's what it sounds like. Really isn't *too* far off. And I'm not entirely clear on whether that was regarding emails or official letters to be mailed..

Yea that's not too bad...I was just under the impression that we would be hearing this week

Congrats to all the international students who got in so far!! 😀

I'm already getting nervous about interview invites coming up... I can just imagine how nervous I will be if I actually get an interview!!

Good luck AspireInspire!

international applicants- I really hope we end up hearing this week!
