Hi, TooLove! I think I was on the AVC tour with you Friday! I didn't realize until after I had finished the interview that I was with a fellow SDN'er, because I was in my own little world, so sorry about that lol! Glad to hear you did well on your interview! I enjoyed the interviewers so much, as they made everything so comfortable. I hope we hear soon!!

We did meet! 🙂

Dr. Sims walked with me around the small animal hospital a bit after my interview was over and he mentioned that the admissions committee was going to meet this Friday to make decisions. He said we would be notified within a few days of that.

On another note.. I just want to say how friendly everyone on the island is! I sat next to a Charlottetown native on my flight in, who also happened to be a 4th year vet student in Calgary (what are the chances?). We chatted the whole flight and when she met her family at the airport they offered to drive me to my hotel and even gave me a little tour of the area and UPEI. Everyone else who I met was just as nice! It seems like such a warm and fuzzy place to live 🙂

This wait is killing me…. I've refreshed my email 87 times today. Thinking about everyone else going through the same thing!. Hang in there everyone!

We probably won't hear anything til next week since the admissions committee isn't meeting until friday. Best of luck to everyone :luck:

i wonder if they are still offering "early admissions" spots (i.e.: if we qualify, we could find out before their final meeting)?

Didn't sound like it. I did mention that when we were talking, and he seemed surprised that I knew early admissions offers had gone out.

What exactly is the basis for early acceptance...does anyone know?

I felt really confident when I left my interview but I've had so many rejections I'm afraid to get my hopes up..

I think it's determined by your overall score. Based on your application, you're given a score which determines your rank in getting an interview. Then your interview is scored and factored into that number. My guess is those with an exceptionally high score are offered early admission.

But, as I said in the stats thread, I don't think I was ranked very high going in to the interview, so if my theory is correct I must have really blown that interview out of the water to get an early acceptance!

I doubt they're giving any more early offers though, with the regular offers coming in just a few days.

Thanks BlackDog17 for breaking that down for me! I am literally terrified to open my email...I really hope we can be classmates, AVC rocks!

I totally know how you feel Blondie.

Also, your theory sounds about spot on BlackDog. That was how it was explained to me during the visit. Grades are worth x percent, experience x percent, etc. The interview is just another piece of the puzzle that they score. I believe the actual percentages are on the website somewhere.

Experience is 10%, Extra curriculars 5%, GREs 5%, Grades 50%, Interview 30%, I believe.

Assessment of Applications
The first step, encompassing 55% of the evaluation, involves ascertaining completeness of the application, i.e. fulfillment of minimal requirements for admission, then ranking of applicants according to the grades received in the prerequisite courses and GRE scores. Based upon the rank list, approximately twice as many applicants will be invited for an interview than are offered a seat. For applicants that have applied for one of the seats offered to Atlantic Canadians and who are enrolled in courses, a re-evaluation of the academic average is completed when the final transcript is received.

The second step involves only those applicants invited for an interview. The remaining 45% of the evaluation will be based on interview (30%), animal/veterinary-related experience (10%), and extracurricular activities (5%).

^^ took this off the admissions page. I don't know why I am torturing myself looking at it, but I am 🙄

I'm right there with you TooLove! I hope we both get in 🙂

I wonder how soon after the admissions committee meets tomorrow we should hear our final decision; do you think that tomorrow is the only day they are meeting, or do evaluations fall into the next week?

I would LOVE to hear tomorrow...I'm sure they will notify us next week though

I think tomorrow is the only day they are meeting, usually decisions are made in a day and letters/emails go out after

Today's the day! My fingers are crossed for all of you - it would be great to have a little group of SDNers in our class! :luck::xf:

Thanks so much blackdog! Hoping for AVC it's my number 1!

Anyone think it's at all possible that they will email us today? Say perhaps they had their meeting in the morning...? wishful thinking..

I just got a phone call, I GOT ACCEPTED!!!!! Happiest day ever!!!!

Thank you all so much =)

Blackdog I can't wait to be classmates!

Congrats Blondie!! 🙂

I am staring at my phone, willing it to get a call 🙁

Yeah I knew that.

I'm guessing no call means no go

Hey, it doesn't mean no go at all. They might just not call everyone in one day. Plus, even if you're not accepted right out of the gate, the international waitlist tends to move a lot as Americans get offers from other schools which might be more beneficial to them. It's still very early days, TooLove. They let you know either way, so until they call, you're still in the running! 🙂

I can't imagine it take more than a day to call 20 people though right? I'll hope for the wait list.

This. 👍

I'm sure they didn't notify everyone today, especially since they only JUST had their admissions meeting. I'm surprised Blondie got a call at all - my acceptance was by email, which I think is their usual way of doing it.

Don't give up hope! You've still got plenty of time to hear from them! :luck::luck::luck:

Thanks guys. Sorry for being such a downer 🙂

If I don't get in here, that's it for me. I'll be applying next round. So I am really really really hoping for some good news.

Man now I'm depressed I was waitlisted last year so I was hoping this year would be the year, guess not 🙁

Congrats Blondie, that's so exciting you got into your dream school! 🙂

I also didn't hear anything yesterday, but I'm wondering why everyone who hasn't heard is so sure they didn't get in/are waitlisted? I'm not saying it's wrong to think that, I'm just wondering if admissions had mentioned to you guys that all final decisions were going out on the same day, and I'm missing something?

Also, let's say hypothetically all acceptances went out yesterday. Wouldn't it make sense to just send out mass rejections as well, since that shouldn't take too much time?

Also, Blondie seemed to have gotten interview at least earlier than you and I, TooLove. Perhaps they are sending decisions (with the exception of early admissions) chronologically?

I'm in the same boat as you all, so I don't know any more than you do, just putting my two cents in. We truly won't know what our final decision is until THEY tell us, so I do think you're being hard on yourselves by telling yourselves it's already over at this point, but I understand the thinking realistically aspect of it. I, too, will be very upset if I don't get in, as I can't take the waiting and rejections anymore; it's definitely very discouraging. And I'm so annoyed we have to wait the whole weekend to know anything! Hopefully we should know by Monday/next week?

I also tried looking on last year's threads for any international AVC decisions patterns, but it seems as if no one really updated their AVC status on the threads last year.

Best of luck to everyone!

Thank you all!!! When I received my phone call I was told, "The committee has made their decisions, I am going down the line, and you are next on the list so I am calling to confirm that you are still interested in attending...(I responded YES and then confirmed: so I was accepted??!!) she said yes and told me I would receive my email with the formal materials this week."

I posted this to hopefully be of some assistance but I apologize if it doesn't help much =/ Everyone on this thread is so kind and supportive and I would LOVE to have you as classmates. I am hoping for good things to happen to you all <3 In the meantime, try to stay positive and there is always monday!! (For instance, if someone said they were no longer interested on the phone...there may still be spots!)

Sorry for asking you all these questions, but did they happen to mention if yesterday was "the day" they are sending out acceptances? Or they possibly weren't calling all acceptances in one day?

Unfortunately no, I was not given any of that information

No worries! Thanks for the response anyway! And you should go out and have some fun and celebrate 🙂

Thanks so much MaiT! Hey and any questions you have you can always PM me if u want 🙂

I'm definitely hoping not all acceptances were given yesterday, though. I'm just so torn down by all of these rejections; it's very discouraging (which makes it harder to concentrate on school work of all things!). This entire cycle, when I found out people have been (deservedly) accepted and I haven't heard from the school yet, I tell myself "oh well i haven't heard any news yet so that doesn't necessarily mean I'm rejected," and then like 1 week later I get rejected. I feel so silly getting my hopes up every time and then failing. You would think I would have learned by now...lol

I know it's an agonizing wait and it's tough when others are hearing and you aren't- trust me, I've been there. But I wouldn't assume rejection until you're told you're rejected. As Coquette has mentioned before, many Americans may reject their spots when they hear from all of the schools in the States. Don't lose hope, be patient and good luck to the rest of you :luck:

thank you for the support 🙂 i can vent to my friends as much as i want, but it's kind of better venting to you guys because you have all actually been in the same position 🙂

I'm not expecting you to have the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway: do you happen to know (as a current/past prospective student) if the acceptances (with the exception of early admission) are usually all sent out in the same day? (Excluding wait-list)

Don't know, sorry 🙁 Remember that they're gearing up to send out Canadian interview offers too, so I'm sure the admissions office is pretty busy right around now and I think it would be feasible to say that you could still get an outright acceptance within the next week.

^^ This exactly.

But, I'm just going to tell myself it's not over til it's over. 🙂
