I'm living alone - I will be happier that way. But I know some people may be looking for roommates. There will be several vet students living in the same vicinity as me so I'm not too concerned.

So excited for you!

Have any accepted international students received financial aid info from AVC yet? I sent in my FAFSA about two months ago now, but I'm not sure when I should expect to hear back from them.

My deposit is in! I'm official! Can't wait for August! Are people living alone or are people looking for roommates?
I might be looking for a roommate! I want to try to live in Brown's Court near UPEI if I can, and I think they are usually 2 bedroom units, what are you looking for? Send me a personal message 🙂

You took the words out of my mouth - I was wondering the exact same thing. Haven't heard a peep and I submitted it a few days after I was accepted.

I found an apartment!! I'll be living in the West Royalty area, approximately 5 - 8 minute drive to school =) Anyone else living nearby??

I'm also wondering about the financial aid...maybe current students can weigh in on when they might have received info?

Congratulations everyone! I know how exciting it is to start vet school. I'm graduating from AVC this week and it's amazing how fast 4 years goes. I've loved it here and hopefully you will too!
In answer to the financial aid question, I believe it takes them a while to get that info to you. If I recall correctly, it was end of May, or beginning of June when they started sending it out. Don't worry too much yet.
Good luck to all of you!

Good to know. I have this thought that I will get my financial aid package and it won't cover everything 🙂

Yay Blondie! I'm not sure where that area is though? I am about a 10 minute drive from school I believe.

Okay, so I have three more completely random questions for current students. Sorry. 😳

1. What did you guys write for your little blurb about your blue coat presenter? My presenter is my mom, and I have no idea how to describe how she's supported me besides "Well, she's my mom . . ."

2. Any recommendations for figuring out what size coat to order?

3. Is there ever a U.S. Army recruiter available for the international students? I'm interested in applying for the HPSP scholarship, but haven't been able to find any information on how to do so from Canada, even though it is apparently possible.

Thanks! Sorry that was rather random.

1. My now-fiance presented mine and I had no idea what to say without sounding like a total cheeseball, so I left it blank. The dean made a good natured joke about it and I felt kind of silly and bad, but SO didn't care. Some people don't have someone there to coat them so they have a professor do so, and obviously there's no blurb about them. So I would just say something like, "My mom has always supported my goals...and always kept me supplied with cookies" or whatever. It doesn't have to be super serious 🙂

2. I have big boobs so I erred on the larger side. My chest is a 34-36 and I ordered a 38 coat. It's loose even when I have a bulky hoody under it but I'd rather that than too snug.

3. Not that they've made apparent to us, and I doubt there's one hanging around the island. I would think you'd need to contact them directly about that.

Can any current students give some info about the rabies vaccines. Would it be better to get it done by your doctor or to wait to get it done at AVC? Thanks!

I had mine done ahead of time for my work at other places and so I just had my titers checked. I would say that if you haven't already had them done, just wait to go with everyone else 🙂

Check to see if your insurance will cover it first. If they will cover all or most it might be better to have it done before. You need 3 months though so check soon!

Hey guys looks like there's a Facebook group up for our class 🙂 it's under Atlantic Veterinary College Class of 2017

Gotcha. Does anyone know when winter break is? I couldn't find a current academic calendar and I want to sign up for the Disney marathon.

My interview is tomorrow, getting pretty nervous!! Any last minute pointers? 😀
I hear Dr Singh is no longer doing the interviews? 🙁

He's still there for lunch and still part of the process, I'm not sure if he's got any input into decisions though and I don't know if he's in the room for the interview itself. Good luck, Aspire! Remember to breathe, try to keep the nerves down. I'm around if you need anything!

I hope the questions aren't too different this year since Dr Singh hasn't been in the interview room with 2 other students that I know. I practiced mostly with SDN interview feedback so I hope they stick to the same question format. However I feel better knowing that I can ask for a different question if I really don't have an answer for one! I hope my french accent doesn't decide to resurface :scared:

Thank you ky and Coquette! Someone suggested to me to bring a water bottle into the room, so that will force me to slow down and relax every now and then.

I'm looking forward to seeing Charlottetown for the first time since my 8th grade field trip!!

I didn't get the chance to meet Dr. Singh at all when I interviewed. Everyone was super nice, and I didn't get a single question that wasn't on SDNs interview feedback. It's very straightforward. Don't stress!!!

When people tell you to wear what you feel comfortable in, go with that. I wore a suit (could dig the pictures out if you really want) and at times I felt almost overdressed.

What's the average that people pay for rent? I'm trying to find something but every place I like my dad says its too much rent...

I think the incoming student handbook said something like $500-800 if you're planning on living alone. Obviously it'll be a lot less if you're sharing a place with roommates. The apartment I'll be living in is $800/month with everything included, but I think that's on the higher end of the spectrum for the Charlottetown area.

I have a Word document with academic calendar dates if anyone wants it. I'm on my iPad now but I can send it from my computer later.

The highlights are: Orientation starts Friday Aug. 23, first day of classes Mon. Aug. 26, Sat. Nov. 30- Sat Dec. 14 fall finals, Mon Jan 6 winter term starts, Thurs Feb 13-Mon Feb 17 winter break, Tues April 22-Sat May 3 winter finals

The schedule for classes and exams is usually posted a week or so before the start of classes.

I pay $525 per month to live alone, outside of town. It includes everything but I have to pay a bit extra for electric so ends up being about $550. (First year it was only $475 but I understand the economy isn't great, so I deal.) Living closer into town will be more expensive, living with roommates usually ends up being <$400/mo.

Ky is on top of it! 👍

😱 Wow...Nice!!!

I'm definitely looking at paying a lot more to live alone. ~$800-$1000 for Saskatoon and ~$1000-1300 for Calgary. Maybe I should move to the Maritimes...👍

Re: rent - I pay $650, basement apartment. I live close to school (15-20 min bike or 5 minute drive, depending on weather...). Everything but internet (I could use theirs, but I download lots so I wanted my own) is included - cable, heat, hot water, electricity, garbage/snow removal and off-street parking. Landlords live upstairs. It's a big 1 bedroom, washer and dryer included.

Anyone on here looking for a roommate? I found a great 2 bedroom that's a 5 min drive to school. Everything is included, send me a pm if interested 🙂

Tomorrow at this time I will be aboard the PEI ferry. My interview is the following day and I go through cycles of "omg I can't have an intelligent conversation with these people" to "I'm feeling good and feel prepared". My dad and SO are coming with me and I'm somewhat looking forward to the whole experience again.

You absolutely CAN have an intelligent conversation with these people! This is your year! 😀

hi to my fellow classmates! I just received a call notifying me of acceptance off the Rank List! I was SHOCKED. I honestly completely thought all seats were filled, and I was planning on e-mailing admissions in a few days to confirm that the class was full. I still haven't processed this yet! All of the doctors tell me how prestigious this school is!

I guess my next stop now is to look for housing :scared:

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!! 😀 😀 :hardy: 👍

Make sure you party it up! You're going to vet school!!!!

Congrats MaiT. I hope to join you in August.

Thank you for those who wished me good luck with my interview. I could have sworn I responded but I apparently didn't. I appreciate your support.
