I was wondering what the average DAT scores are on the various sections for podiatry schools. It appears NYCPM and Temple still accept the DAT.

They only accept the DAT in limited cases and you probably should contact each admissions and tell them why you are taking the DAT and not the MCAT before applying. I know that both of these schools are really trying to encourage prospective applicants to take the MCAT instead of the DAT. And you could ask them what the average score is. Hope this helps.

NYCPM - 20
Temple - 18.5

Can anyone confirm this?

I find it hard to believe NYCPM would have an average AA of 20. Only 14 out of 56 dental schools have an AA of 20 and above for matriculants (according to 2011 stats). So how is it that dental schools are more competitive compared to podiatry schools?

This could mean one of two things. Either applicants taking the DATs are at a disadvantage or NYCPM is accepting dental rejects with high DAT scores coupled with a mediocre GPA (which might be the reason why they didn't get accepted to dental schools).

My understanding about this subject is thus: NYCPM would prefer to take students who are interested in podiatry, not students who wanted to go to dental school and are applying podiatry last minute and have no clue what podiatry entails. NYCPM figures, if the dental schools didn't want them, and they have a competitive DAT score, then why would NYCPM want them? There may be something off there... which is why NYCPM requires an even higher DAT score. NYCPM wants students interested in podiatric medicine; students that show they want to work in this field will understand that they need the appropriate entrance exams.

NYCPM considers the MCAT to be a more competitive exam. NYCPM would prefer their students to have an MCAT score and that's why it is very difficult to be accepted via DAT only. NYCPM is also trying to move toward NOT accepting DAT scores and ONLY accepting MCAT scores. During this transition, if you are a student with only a DAT score, you better be a very strong student and at least have a working knowledge of podiatric medicine.

I hope that makes sense and helps to answer to questions. Let me know if you need some more clarification.
