I believe it really varies from school to school and there probably isn't really a set standard in place. I do know that they (top 4 SGU, Ross, AUC and Saba) prefer students that already have a healthcare background and it makes perfect sense since they already have a idea of what being and becoming a MD involves (whereas some have students frankly have no idea what it takes). So, you see alot of Pharmacists, Chiropractors, PA's, PT's and RN's. In my experience I've met some studens with unreal stats like a 3.9 GPA and35 MCAT score and I've also met a few with sub 3.0 and a poor MCAT's but have great work experience. it really depends on the student. So what I'm saying is apply and see what happens.
