What's the typical # of DO schools applicants apply to? I'm not sure if I'm going overboard or not... Ha! Please let me know! Thanks! 🙂

I applied to 12, the ones that were friendly to out of staters (somewhat).

I applied to 3 DO schools.

I am applying to 14. If it was just me it would probably be fewer but my husband and I are both applying so we want a better chance of getting into the same school.

I'll be applying to 7... only the ones I could see myself attending!

i applied to all 25 (but i wont be going to ohio, but i had to pay for it cause i found out later that i had to stay instate for a number of years)

I'm applying to 6, 1 in state.

I applied to about a dozen. I was actually only interested in three or four of those actually, and I got into the ones I wanted to go to.

Some of them like CCOM and PCOM recently contacted me like a month ago. I just tossed the letter since I had been accepted back in February to the school I wanted to go to as a first choice (WVSOM).

When I sent in my initial applications, it was like $50 a school or whatever so I just sent out a bunch because $600 is peanuts long term. It seems like a lot to a college student, but it is nothing compared to your future.

Sent my primary to more, but only submitted my secondary to 5.

i'm applying to 9; 2 in state. I didn't really look to see who was the kindest to out of staters. I only applied to schools that I could see myself at.

I applied to 9. I wish I didn't apply to MSU, OU, or UNECOM. A big waste of money as an OOS applicant.

Applied to 9. Now wishing I didn't apply to UNECOM based on the previous post. Are they really that tough on OOSers. 😕

I guess they have no love for Illinois folk? :meanie: I am happy the way things worked out in the end, but I wish I had known what I know now. I guess if you're not from the NE area or upper EC states, it is kinda hard to get into UNECOM. I forgot what the stats are, but they don't work in your favor.

Don't count out UNE just 'cuz you're OOS. There are PLENTY of non-New England people both in my class and the class above mine.

Apply where you want to go. Numbers aren't everything: I got rejected from KCOM, waitlisted at DMU, accepted within 3 days at UNE. Go figure. And I was from Colorado, no ties to New England.

Yeah I had a borderline GPA and a low MCAT (23Q) that I will be retaking. I don't wanna waste money though. I have been hearing the "numbers aren't everything" truism quite a bit, but I am sure there are those places I shouldn't even touch.

ShyRem,
UNE is my top choice for DO because my soon-to-be-husband is from that area (North Boston). He has a large family that is still there, and mine have all but moved away from Indiana. We know that we want to end up back near Boston, and I'm really hoping that will be through an acceptance at UNE. 🙂

Should I put something to this effect in my personal statement? I don't want to kill my chances at other schools by saying this, yet I don't want to be rejected presecondary because I am not from New England. As someone who knows non-native New Englanders who got in - what would you recommend?

Oh, and in keeping with the topic of this thread - I'm applying to 10 DO schools. 😉

You can certainly say that your fiance' is from Mass. I said I had grown up in PA but had spent the past 25 years in Colorado. My husband, my children had only known Colorado. I was pretty darn grounded in Colorado. I got into UNE.

Really, folks, the issue with UNE and New England applicants is mainly that proportionally a whole buttload more NE folks apply to UNE, therefore proportionally more NE folks get in.

The bottom line is: if you don't apply, you certainly have ZERO chance of getting accepted. If you apply, at least you won't be the one saying "no" (unless perhaps you're lucky enough to have multiple acceptances).

Thanks, ShyRem, for the advice!
