avg gpas and mcats

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I remember seeing a list that was almost identical to this (I matched up some of the #s) and know for sure that it's from like 97-99, so waaaay old. Plus, I looked up some of the school's websites and there's a pretty significant diff in the GPA and MCAT. I wouldnt go by those stats. 🙄

average MCATs are higher at a lot of those schools according to the new MSAR. Most top schools average a 35. GPA wavers a bit more. Mayo was a 3.9

a 3.9?!!? 😱

That was my top choice. This really sucks!

With 40-50 people as an incoming class...it can be your top choice but your chances based on shear numbers are ridiculously small.

The Page Info from my browser shows that the page was last modified in 2001. So it's somewhat outdated.

I agree that the numbers may be a bit low, but not by much.

they have a miniscule school, so you'd better be exactly what they're looking for

Those stats hold alot of wait with residency programs, more so than U.S. News ranking, from everything that I have heard.

The stats are quite low, for many schools they are .5-1.5 low per section, which means 1.5-4.5 overall! That certainly is significant.
ie Case 9.5, actually 11
Northwestern 9.7, actually 11.1
MCW 9.0, actually 9.9
Mount Sinai 9.1, actually upper 10s

Then again a few are accurate,
SLU 9.9
Vanderbilt 11

The link has old/inaccurate info, most recent and accurate info can be obtained from the schools, and a compiled list from US News which obtains its information from the schools. This is a just a list using bad data provided by an undergrad institution. You need to use better sources if you want better info.

Oddly the osteo stats are quite accurate.

also check out www.theprincetonreview.com. I'm not sure how recent these numbers are, but they are also good indicators and also talk about hte mcat breakdwon, class size, other important tidbits of info.

Those stats look pretty good too.

the princeton site says northwestern is at 3.0?!

Do not let the average GPA/MCAT score dissuade you from applying to your top choices...remember averages are that, just averages. People with higher/lower GPA/MCAT get in. Mayo *is* a great place to learn medicine..if you have any questions about Mayo please feel free to PM me. I should be studying endocrinology but this is a great way for me to procrastinate he he..

SLU is actually 10.3 average baby girl

Hey I go to Eckerd and I never saw this link before....I don't know how reliable it is, since it doesn't even link to the intranet! Honestly, most of the pre-med related information hasn't been updated in ages, so I doubt the stats are present averages.

Go look at the U.S News and World Report Best Graduate Schools issue for this year. It seems to have the most accurate information regarding gpa and MCAT score as Mcat scores from some schools are not even written in the MSAR (at least last years).
