Hi Folks,
I've got a couple questions on AZPOD that aren't covered by Midwestern's website. Perhaps someone who has visted can help out?

Where is the foot & ankle clinic that is used for clinical education?
Are they set up for students to do research?
Is there a gait lab?
Are they giving scholarships, and are they frontloaded (lots of $ in the first year, non-renewable), or more conservative but renewable yearly?
What else needs to happen before the school is fully accredited?
Can you install air conditioning in a car that doesn't have it? (kidding)

Thanks for your help!

I have recently commited to AZPOD and i love it there! There is a clinic on campus, but a new one is being built on campus too - it will be really really nice and will be done by July. Some of the professors there are going to have part-time practices out of there. The school does not yet have a gait lab - but one will likely come in the near future. They are definitely set up to do research and they have well known DPM's there that have been doing successful research.

They are not in a position to give scholarships for 1st years - but there are TONS for 2nd-4th years. They are through the major part of the accredidation process and the final process is just a matter of time - they have to wait a certain amount of time between each step. They say the final part should be complete by next spring. They are incredibly on top of it and have a great committee working on that stuff. They make a good point to say that accredidation is only good for a certain number of years at a time - and that any school can lose its accredidation just as fast as AZPOD secures its accredidation. Really, it does not affect anything or say anything negative about the school - its just a standard process that they have to go through as a new program.

The faculty there are reputable faculty members that have been incredibly successful at other pod schools and now have moved to help with starting AZPOD. The professors and people on the admissions have moved from other great schools by choice to be at AZPOD and thus they reallly really believe that AZPOD is the future of podiatry - in that it has an AMAZING program.

Many classes there are with the DO students. The professors teaching there have helped the students there accomplish great stats on boards the last 10+years - they are the same profs that the pod students will have and thus it is assured that the education is very respectable. I interviewed at Oakland, Scholl, and AZPOD and was most impressed with AZPOD - from facilities to current students to faculty to the overall surrounding community. Yes, the summers will be hot and YES, you MUST have AC in your home and car - but as they say there, "at least you dont have to shovel it." The rest of the year is perfect weather!

Have you interviewed there? Applied? keep me posted!

Thanks for the complete reply! Those are good points about accreditation. I'm interviewing in the next month and will keep you posted on the outcome. Sounds like it will be interesting to talk to the profs about their vision for the school and podiatry. AZPOD definitely has a bright future.
