You are talking about the clubhouse on campus right? I don't live on campus, but I would love to come too. So, is the 6-6:30 thing really good to go?

I'd love to join you guys, but I have plans. I've started taking Aikido classes and will hitting the mat in Scottsdale from 7-8:30. I'm sure I'll bump into you all at some point in the next couple of days though...have fun!
 
I dont live on campus either so I dont have a key or whatever you need to get into the clubhouse, but I will be there about 6:10pm.

Hi everyone! My dog had minor surgery today, so I wasn't comfortable leaving him this evening. I am up for coffee tomorrow though. There is a coffee shop (The Coffee Bean?) on the NW corner of 59th and the 101 if anyone is interested. There is also a Starbuck's at 67th and the 101 if you prefer.

Talk about being blind-sided... Others have made it, so I know that we will too.

How did you like your first week of classes? Are you meeting your classmates and professors (and big brother or sister)? Which classes are the most interesting for you so far?
 
The first week wasn't too bad. There seemed to be a lot of papers to fill out and turn in and overall busy work, but other than that it was cool. Everyone seems really nice and the classes were pretty interesting (though perhaps a little cold). I have yet to meet my big sib (or even find out who they are).

How did everyone else feel the first week went? Jason, are you finding it easy enough to balance school and studying with spending times with your kids?

One weeks down! I enjoyed most all of the classes...behavior was a bit dry, but I have hopes for that class. All of our professors seem really great! Isn't Dr. Walters just Awsome!! I felt like I had a good grip as far as the material is concerned..then I realize that we don't even have anatomy yet😱

Get used to the temperature in Sahuaro A. Especially if you sit inn the front. It is ridiculously cold in that place.

You should have gotten a letter over the summer telling you who your big sib is. And it would have been nice if your big sib contacted you! But if you want to know -go ask the registrar, Christy Shenk. I am pretty certain she's the one who has it. Or Bea White over there in student services. If Christy doesn't have the list, she'll know where to send you to find out.

Your big sib is a valuable tool. Do not feel shy around them. ASk them lots of questions. That's what they're for!

The photo spread on 2007 is complete (and you thought those pics were just for your ID badges). You can go up to the Dean's office and they will give you a copy so that you can start putting all those names together with faces. The profs all get them so that they can start learning your names too, so go for it!
 
Hey everybody, I apologize for butting in on your thread, but just this past week (9-19-03, first day of interviews) I interviewed at AZCOM and loved the school to no end. I have other interviews coming up, but if accepted to AZCOM will cancel the rest and pack my bags for Arizona. However, I am just wondering how quickly you guys/girls heard back from the school after you interviewed and if you have any idea whether or not interviewing early is/was to my advantage (I realize that as far as the numbers go, I have better chance but does the admissions committee look with more favor on those that interview early?). Also, what's the deal with the admissions committee actually accepting 300-350 students out of 500 interviews for the 140 spots? Obviously, I am simply trying to calm my nerves because I will drive myself crazy thinking of the "shouldda, coulddas" about the interview and would appreciate any insights you might have for a prospective student. Thanks for your help and I hope to see you next year!

Congratulations on the interview! I heard back within a month, but my interview was on the last day before the long Thanksgiving break, so you should get faster turnaround.

You do have a better chance interviewing early than people in the spring, and tactically it's a better deal to get accepted early since osteopathic schools require huge (and usually nonrefundable) deposits. If you have to put a deposit down, you of course want to be reasonably sure that's where you want to go. AZCOM's is graduated. I think it's 250, 750, and then 1000, so if you change your mind you haven't committed the whole bank.

AZCOM does accept a really high percentage of those who apply, so you're in great shape. Lots of people still do regard osteopathic schools as their backup, which is why schools have to offer so many acceptances to fill their class.

It is a wonderful place, though--definitely not backup material. I brought my app process to a screeching halt as soon as I got my acceptance from AZCOM. No regrets; the professors are great, the work is reasonable, and Arizona can't be beat.

Congratulations again! In three or four weeks hopefully you'll be able to kick back and relax for the rest of the year while many others are going crazy throughout the spring.

Congratulations on the interview. I interviewed around this time last year and was accepted within a couple of weeks. I think you will hear something pretty soon-- 4 weeks at the most (but I would expect about 2).

I second what Luke said about everything. AZCOM is a great school and the profs/classes have been pretty good (so far). Also, the second year students have been VERY helpful and welcoming to all of us. They are always inviting us to do things, helping us out, and encouraging us to do well. It is really cool how much they really seem to care about us (as corny as that sounds).

As for the numbers, I think it is pretty common for a lot of schools. They have to accept more people than they actually plan on attending. There is some formula that they use to determine the numbers. However, at AZCOM if you receive an interview, your chances of being accepted are pretty good.

Anyway, good luck with the rest of your interviews (if you decide to go to them). If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
 
Hey everybody, it's me again. I just wondered what your opinion is on the issue of calling AZCOM to see whether or not I was accepted. I realize that yesterday was the earliest date that they said we might hear from them, but I interviewed on the first day of interviews and assume that they have met and made decisions since then. The problem is that I have other interviews coming up very soon and do not want to waste the money flying out if I am accepted to AZCOM. Let me know what you think if you get the time. Thanks.

I doubt it will hurt, especially if you phrase it like that. If the nice ladies in the admissions office know that you're asking because your heart belongs to AZCOM and you're planning on leaving those other schools at the altar, it can only help your cause if they haven't made a decision yet. If they have made a decision, they'll likely tell you.

I found out about my AZCOM acceptance somewhere deep in Alabama in the middle of a 30-hour drive to another interview. Better to know before you go if at all possible!
 
Hey everyone, just thought I'd let you know that I was "unoficially" accepted after calling the admissions office a couple of days ago, thanks for the advice. Basically, the "nice lady" in admissions told me that, if AZCOM really was my first choice, there was no reason for me to attend any of my other interviews. That being the case, I've postponed NSU until a later date (just in case something goes horribly wrong) and have cancelled a couple of others until I get the "official" word via hard copy mail. As soon as that comes, all other interviews (six others) are out the window. What a relief! Thanks for your help and I'll see you next year!!!
 
Congratulations snooze! We're all probably a little bitter this morning due to a rather nasty power outage, flash flood, and 7 AM test that somehow managed to proceed as planned, but I'm sure you'll love it here when the sudden flood-level storms aren't coming down. Please ask if you have any questions along the way!

Congratulations and welcome to the Class of 2008.

Luke, I think more people seemed bitter about the test yesterday for ICM than they did for today's test. This morning, I woke up and looked at my clock and saw nothing. When I looked at my watch, it was 10 minutes before the test started. Thank GOD I woke up in time. That would have been great for the transcripts--F for psychiatry.

Anyway, now its time to focus on Biochemistry. Good luck to everyone on the tests coming up.

So how did the big anatomy test go? That one has the most material on it of any you will see. Next quarter there is alot of detail in head & neck, but at least that is split into 2 tests. Hopefully everyone did well!
 
I am just glad it is done. I have no clue how I did--but hopefully not TOO bad. I guess we will find out tomorrow. Only about 3.5 weeks left and then I can take a big sigh of relief. But for now, Biochemistry calls!

CCOM and AZCOM are both part of Midwestern University--two colleges in the same University. I don't know what more you want to know. We don't share classes or anything (seeing as we are in Phoenix and they are in Chicago). Perhaps you could be more specific as to what you want to know.

So I was curious. I have three kids and a wife that will work while I go to AZCOM in the fall. How did everything turn out for those of you that had families and daycare and trying to get enough aid? Thanks Everyone.
 
the aid we get is capped at 52K. If your wife works probably won't effect how much you get (correct me if i'm wrong on this guys) there are a lot of people with kids here (almost a suprising amount) so the school knows how to work with us. congrats on the acceptance!

i am starting AZCOM in the fall and i wa wondering when the really ot season starts

( i was told thre r 2 seasons:
1. Hot
2. Very hot

this suits me jsut fine. hehe

You're coming from Chicago? I took some classes at Loyola also. Personally, I find the heat a lot more tolerable than Chicago summers. Even those 115 degree days are merciful compared to the sticky haze coming off the lake in July.

With that said, I can't vouch for other years, but this past fall the temperatures made a solid run at 100 most days through October. I'm told that's unusual, though. Quite a shock though to see one's electric bills go from $200 to $100 to $50 over the course of three months!
 
yes i am from chicago and am happy to be leaving all the cold weather behind.

Hello everybody, I am HERE!
The trip from Wisconsin to Glendale has finally come. I moved into town last Sunday and have loved it ever since. With the cold weather left behind, my days and nights have been great. Laying by the pool, running outside, hot-tubbing...i love it all.
I cant wait to start class in fall and meet everybody. Until then, I was hoping to find a fun job, but i guess that is easier said than done. oh well.
I am living in the Sagestone apartments and will be for at least one year. If anyone else out there lives here, let me know, I would love to meet you.

You youngsters should be out having fun before you get beat up next year.

the weather is great from sept to april. may gets a little too much for me. june and july can be pretty bad only because of humidity....but the monsoons have been light for the last 2 years. once you get to the end of your 1st year, you will be acclimitized after the mild winter and the summer thereafter isnt too bad.
