I was bored last night so I decided to make a background for my computer, thought I would share it! Go Class of 2012! 🙂

So AZCOM has had my application since Aug 07. They were waiting for my MCAT scores before they made a decision to offer an interview. anyway, i took the MCAT jan 26th, AAMC released scores to AACOMAS on feb 26th. AACOMAS recieved them march 1st. By March 3rd, AZCOM still hadn't received them. Therefore, I am out without even having had a chance. good luck to all you AZCOMers. Be great.

I called for a friend of mine a few days ago and apparently there are still about half the seats available. I would keep calling to ensure it finally gets there if you are still interested in AZCOM. Good luck.

For those who are curious:

Caduceus vs. Aesculapius

Medicine and the medical profession have been represented throughout history by various combinations of a snake or snakes and the caduceus, each of which has significant meanings.
The word caduceus is derived from a Greek root meaning herald's wand or badge of office. Originally, the caduceus was an olive branch, but it was later replaced by a staff entwined with snakes.

The caduceus is strongly associated with Hermes, the Greek messenger of the gods. Although he is not intimately connected with healing, Hermes is cited as the guardian of health. He received the staff from Apollo who gave it to him as a token of admiration to carry as a symbol of his office. According to Apollo, the staff, with its two winged snakes, was to bring peace and overcome disease.

The medical symbolism connected to the staff and snake has descended most vividly from Greek mythology in connection with the healer Aesculapius. Aesculapius' parents were the mortal Coronis and Apollo, the god who possessed all medical knowledge. Apollo passed along his healing powers to the centaur Chiron and gave Aesculapius into his care.

One day Aesculapius saw a snake crawl from a crack in the earth and entwine itself on his staff. Aesculapius killed the snake, but immediately thereafter another snake emerged from the crack carrying an herbal leaf in his mouth; it placed the leaf on the head of the dead snake, which miraculously revived.

The serpent became Aesculapius' constant companion, and Aesculapius became the patron of the temples of healing that sprang up throughout Greece.

tried that...they said they would only accept official MCAT scores from AACOMAS. I will wait and see what the dean says. i will definitely push the issue though... i was born in the year of the rat. rats are good at finding ways to get to the cheese. i hope i see you all in the fall, or at least have the opportunity to strut my stuff..

Hey all, I just turned in all my stuff and last friday 2/29 Midwestern has gotten everything. I have a 21 MCAT, which I know is not strong and a 3.6 GPA, I think my community service and all of that fun stuff are strong, I was just wondering if I have a puncher chance at Midwestern, I know that their average was a 26 last year, but that is an average right 🙂

To those that have sent in secondaries...and not gotten an interview invite...did they actually write you a rejection letter...or just simply never respond to ya?

I clearly recognize that my stats are crap...the simple realities of being a nontrad😳...but I'm complete and kind of in this state of limbo not knowing if I might get an interview (I clearly recognize my chances are slim) or if I simply won't hear back from them as their polite way of saying NO!

Anyone have any knowledge of how they communicate their "don't call us...we aren't going to call you" response? Will they send a letter...or just simply ignore me?

fifteen year medic, huh?? i've been a medic for five. i'm 35 as well, and we seem to be in similar boats as non-trad students.. good luck to ya...all that patient care has to account for something. i calculated it the other day...over 15000 hours of time served.. i am curious if that is a benefit or a hinderance. i have heard medical schools (allopathy) do not appreciate medics. we'll see.

When did you interview? You will get a letter but you might get a phone call too. I've heard about the changing colors thing but I don't know at what point that happens.

So if there are nearly half the seats still to fill that is roughly 125 seats still up for grabs, that is some good news at least. I just have a quick question for all of those who have interviewed at Midwestern, did they call you, send you an email, or snail mail. Also, how long did it take from them to make their decision.

I got a phone call.. and I got it real quick, Interviewed on a Monday and then got a call on Friday. I think it was my timing and how it lined up with their adcom meeting schedule. Pure luck, I luckily didn't have to wait long!

Okay well I did get an interview but not until after I was placed on the preinterview waitlist. I actually found out because I called to check my status then I received a letter stating the same thing. I'm guessing generally they will send you a letter but I can't be 100% on that. You can always give them a call and see if they can tell you anything.

The DO interviewer clearly did not like my answer of the Iraq war and unrest in the middle east, so I was wondering what others thoughts were on the matter, in case I am asked the question again this year! i'm sure it wasn't what you said that they didn't like, it was probably how you said it. but then again, choosing the iraq war and middle east issue that we are being fed everyday probably shows you did not put as much thought into it (i'm not saying you are wrong or you didn't put thought into it). just be confident about your answer and show them you have put a lot of thought into your answer (for example, talk outloud your thinking processes). or u can just say something they aren't expecting, like the widening gap of education between developed and underdeveloped nations <--you can't use that anymore

then again i have never had an interview at AZCOM, but i'm just trying to help you with the general idea of interviews

I seriously doubt you'll be asked this question again. If you are, tell the truth. If you really think it is Iraq and the middle east then say that. But say it WELL. Deliver your argument in a thought-out and persuasive matter. Make a case for your answer. Give reasons that go beyond an appeal to authority or appeal to emotion fallacies.

I've been leaning towards AZCOM this whole time though, ever since the incredible interview day at AZCOM. So, I'm pretty sure that will be my choice. I'd especially love to go to school with some awesome SDNers 😀.

Hey, could you PM me with how you made your decision? I'm stuck right now because I know that if I went to Western I'd most likely get a residency here in so cal, but I'm not sure about that if I went to AZCOM. I'm not sure about AZCOM's rotations either. I heard you have to set them up on your own or something.

So I was complete back in November, but they were waiting for my updated MCAT. I got a 20 last fall and retook it in January. I made a 25 this time. I have a 3.61 overall and 3.52 science. I called the week I faxed things to make sure they received the new score. They didn't so she told me to refax. I am going to call today to see if they now have my new MCAT score.

I was just curious to see if they are still sending out interview invites. Does anyone know when the last interview day is? Also, is the invite by mail, email, or phone? I'm back home for spring break and someone is checking my mail. I really want AZCOM because of the program and my grandmother lives out there. Any input would be great. Thanks!
