I just got one of my microbiology exam grades back and did absolutely horrible. I really don't know what the hell I did wrong, did barely better than guessing. I need to get a B on the final just to get a B in the class (which may be hard). I have a 3.93 GPA, I am taking organic 2, physics, behavioral neuroscience, and microbiology all at one time and I guess it was a matter of time I messed up.

How bad is one B-/C+ look like in a line of other A/A-s.?
Thanks everyone, sorry I'm just freaking out over this bad grade.

That is a difficult load. One b-/C+ won't hurt you. You'll be wiser next time when you make your class schedule or learn better studying/test taking skills. I say that you are still doing very well.

Not great, but if it's the only one, it's not going to kill you. Try to keep it at a B-, though, as that's going to get less notice than the C. Just like anything else, A>A->>B+... it's just how it looks (even though it makes little difference GPA-wise).

I was handling it for the most part, I have an A in the other three science classes I am in and the two labs (microbio and phys) just really shocked that happened. Thanks

From the way you framed the question, it's clear you ask this question because you know what answer you want to hear, and you want to hear SDN say it; not just to a similar question found in a search, but to yourself directly. But who are the people whose reassurances you seek? Who among us is perfect? How do you know none of the doctors you have ever had have never had a B- or C+ before? Would you trust them less knowing they had? Will your children look into your eyes and see nothing but "B- IN MICROBIOLOGY?" Like death, you will need to face these questions alone.

The short answer is, at a top 20 school it won't come up in the interview, but each of your state school interviews will begin with "SO, MICROBIOLOGY..." At this point, all you can do is try to ace the final, or, if you want to fight dirty, take a W.

That was absolutely profound. Poetic even.

I know what you mean. All it takes is one bad test, one teacher who wants to grade a little harshly, or whatever when normally everything is going well. That's how physics was with me this semester.

Thanks mastermix your were right about everything. I just need to accept this and move on. Hopefully I'll make out ok in the end.

There's always the Caribbean

@chrisp
Lol, I wasn't knocking Mastermix, he/she clearly hit the nail on the head. I apologize for any perceived sarcasm (at least for my second post).

One bad grade isn't going to kill you. Just like working out in the gym one day doesn't make you fit. Consistency is the key. If you consistently make good grades you will be fine.

Don't give up hope yet. It might be a particularly difficult test and others might have done badly too. Just try your best, you never know if the overall class grade will get curved.
