bad grades

When I started ochem I didnt go to the gym at all =/.
I gave you my advice already, your not in such a bad state.
 
Well, for starters...by the sound of your post im guessing you are prob a freshman in college. A 2.5 is very easy to boost up with around 90+ credit hours ahead of you. It is VERY feasible. Obviously, you wont get it up to a 4.0, but you dont need a 4.0! How come you are eager to go with the biomedical engineer major? It sounds like you are extremely disciplined with you weight loss. That is a good sign. It means you have the ability to dedicate yourself in becoming successful at something. Your biggest task now is to figure out a balance between working out and school, the latter being the main focus. I would probably be considered a "workout-aholic" but i always make time for my school. I workout 5-8 times a week. However, school is the most important part in my schedule. If I am going to have a busy day, i plan ahead and either wakeup early to workout, or simply take a day off. However, if you take a day off, just dont go to burger king and eat 3 whoppers! I am sure you maintain a strict diet and you should always abide by it regardless what your busy schedule is like.

I, personally, stick to a 2000 calorie/day diet. If i dont workout one day, I eat 1600-1800 calories to make up for the calories i didnt burn. If i workout 2 times a particular day, I may eat 2400-2600 calories that day depending on how rigorous my workouts are.

The point of all this is that you have to find a happy compromise. Afterall, there are only 24 hrs in a day! Play with your schedule a bit and find a routine you can stick with!!! But remember, keep school first.

Well, you need to find a balance between time spent in the gym and time spent on schoolwork.
 
First off, 4 hrs in a gym everyday is A LOT of time to be in there. I was a division I athlete in college and we the only time we practiced that much was when we had doubles (which actually was about 3-4 times a week haha). Do you do strictly cardio?? Because if i did 4 hrs of cardio straight i think i would be the most bored person on earth, not to mention exhausted. The reason my grades suffered in college was because I was an athlete and worked out too hard. I couldnt even stay awake longer than 5 minutes in class bc my body was exhausted 24/7. This KILLED my grades...now i am going to have to pay for it!

As far as your schedule goes...It definitely won't be easy. I plan on taking bio II, chem II, physics I, and anatomy I in the fall. It will be very difficult but definitely not impossible. If you are going to take a rigorous schedule, you need to prepare for it. This means cutting down on the gym time and spending more time studying with good nights sleep.
 
Piece of advise: If you really want to do medical school, I wouldn't major in biomedical engineering unless you are just naturally super smart. Engineering classes are notorious for being difficult and they often lower gpa's. I would major in an easier field if I were you. You don't get bonus points for majoring in a hard field and doing poorly.
 
How about attacking your weight problem more from the diet side instead of the exercise side of things? Both are great, but in terms of losing weight changing up the diet is usually more effective than exercise if you can stay with it, and unlike exercise you end up putting less time into something (i.e., eating) rather than more.
 
the reason i want to lose pounds is because my dad had a quadruple bypass in january and it just hit me that if i dont get in shape and live a healthier lifestyle i will become just like him.


i think this would be an interesting PS actually...and you could say how originally, the 4 hrs in the gym and drastic change in lifestyle took its toll on your grades until you learned how to balance the two...and in the process had a newfound passion for medicine in order to help others like your dad or something.

but in terms of the now, yeah, 2.5 end of freshman year??? you'll be okay, just don't load up on the sci/math like biomed eng majors do. take some humanities or core classes next semester and only one or two sci/math classes...cool down on the gym a bit when you start classes and focus all that energy into studying. by 2nd semester you might be able to balance the two a bit more with 2-3 sci/math classes.
