Hi guys. This semester I think I'm going to end with 2 D's in my record (being positive I may end with 2 C's) one in english, one in Trigonometry. Will this prevent me from entering med school? Do I have to repeat? withdraw? I have a 3.80 GPA, and still have 2 years to graduate.

As long as it doesn't become a habit, and you can sufficiently explain it, no biggy. What does your GPA become after the hit?

If you can pull off the C's don't worry too much about it. However, if you get a D, I'd definitely retake it. I know most schools won't even give you credit for a D so you'd have to take it again anyway. Just make sure it doesn't happen again.

D's seem like a biggy to me. B- is no biggy. What is your explanation? you weren't that into the topics? or they were really hard for you? I would definitely retake to show that you can handle whatever they had to hand to you.

but yah, its totally alright to have a few bad grades just dont make a habit and you'll basically be alright
get your gpa back up will be bit hard
but im sure in 2 years you can manage =p

In reference to the fact that he implies he can still get two Cs with what I suppose is hard work and staying on the ball, which I assume he IS attempting to do. If he can get those up to Cs and keep his GPA up for the rest of his semesters, it is no biggy. I am not implying that he accept Ds as "no biggy."

Prepare to explain why you did so poorly by A) being honest with yourself, as many med schools can see through the "my teacher wasn't fair/(whatever other excuse)" followed by B) Be realistic with your current stauts in those two classes... if you're doing poorly and are trying hard, don't expect that out of the blue you'll study and get that 100 on the final to pass the class.. speak with the teacher and set realistic goals
I have 2 D's on my record, and had an honest explanation that med schools accepted, and I got A's in the retaken classes to fix it... its not only possible, it's YOU CAN DO IT!
I'll be honest with you guys. Both classes are totally easy for me, but I really screwed them up by not doing their homework. I got an 81 and a 94 in english but 25 and 40 in homework grades because I didn't do them or finished them late. I got an 66,67,88 and 85 in Trig 'cause I never really practiced. I'm quite intelligent (not to boast or anything) I'm top in Biology in the whole college this semester. The highest mid term grade was me (87) and my overall grade in the class is the highest (97) among all the students. I'm really good at science and I love it,and I dominate quite well math, but I really don't find it that "interesting" except for the basics we will use in medicine. In english I had the problem that my professor was boring and gave a lot of homework and like I said I rarely did it. I'm also kind of a free without borders creative type of writer and many times during the class if I wrote something the professor didn't like she would just drop points because is not written like she wanted me to. Many students argued with her about this also and got the points back but I never did it( Because as long as it was what she asked for it was right).
So guys, I'm being open with you now. You have to give me something strong (advice) so I can do the necessary arrangements. W's are out of the word for me. I prefer retaking, but will this affect my GPA permanently? or will it be only temporarily until I take the classes again?

Do you mean that you are not willing to withdraw or you are unable to withdraw at this point? If the former why?!! I'm pretty sure that the consensus on SDN is a W w/ an A retake >>> D (or C thinking positively) w/ an A retake. If you are applying MD, AMCAS doesn't do grade replacement like AAMCOS so they will average the two grades potentially leaving you with a 2.5. That is something that you should consider...
I know I wish I had been smart about a few classes and withdrew while I still had the chance instead.....
It's certainly a good start that you are honest with yourself and know what went wrong. If you correct those issues, change your habits, retake and don't allow yourself to get in this situation again you should be fine. Despite what you may see on SDN, not everyone who is accepted has a 4.0. It is possible to come back from a bad grade or 2. IMO two years is still plenty of time to show adcoms that this semester is not characteristic of your aptitude. Get that STRONG upward trend working for you! 👍

why dont you just try to do the very best you can to get those grades as high as you can at this point so that you'll never have to worry about D's....or youll never have to look back and wonder what would have happend if you had tried your best?

Here comes another problem.
I'm a transfer. On my old transcript I had 7 W's...2 of them were for no good reason, I did this because I was pretty stupid. I had another 5 W's on my transcript (whole semester) because I had transportation problems. I lost another semester in school because I had surgery. So I lost a full year. I then transfered to another college and I'm currently clean with my grades. A's for the most except for the problem I'm having. Will AMCAS ask for my old transcripts as well? or will they ask only for the ones from the college I graduate from? If I withdraw now from english and math...will this be a problem?

Not really. If you can explain why you had to withdraw from those classes, most med schools will understand. Were you failing any of the classes you withdrew from?

I am not sure, but I doubt you'll have 3.85 by graduation having 2 D's...maybe I'm wrong.
