Let's just say someone had Dr. Goljan audio lectures. However, that same someone had the option of going to a class of Dr. Barone's. And from what I hear Dr. Barone is a very entertaining professor that gives you a tons of mneumonics, etc to really remember stuff. While, there's Dr. Goljan who from what I've heard doesn't give mneumonics but tries to integrate more.

So....which one would you do? I have thought of going to both the Barone class and listening to Dr. Goljan (but thats FIVE freaking days of lecture). That's why I would just like to do one or the other... 😉

thanks for the feedback

Hey Mountaindew 2006

I was wondering the same thing. we must be at the same school. I listened to the Goljan audio lectures and followed along with his Mosby Rapid Review for path and it was definitely better than following the webprep lectures of Barone. That being said I will still probably go to Barones lectures just for the hell of it. 👍

I like the webprep lectures. I paid $700+ dollars and that guy is much better than goljan IMO.

Nothing against GOLJAN, but if you don't watch it. He can put you to sleep. He has a monotone voice at times.

yah , just got done w/ barone yesterday!

No offense to Goljan either.....but seriously BARONE IS AMAZING!! and believe me, i thought Goljan was the $hit at one point.

Barone is waaaaaaaaay funnier and things stick in your head. Seriously, he had our class' attention 100% of the time. It's impossible to nod off.

One word for the guy. AMAZING

He should teach every class at every med school

We had him about a month ago and I couldn't wait to go to class again in the morning; this is from someone who can't stand lectures. He is really amazing, especially at making connections. He seems to tie everything up rather nicely. Did he tell you the Travolta story yet?

which one? lol he's infactuated w/ travolta. felt sorry for the poor ol' sap when his pic w/ travolta didnt show up how he wanted it to. 😀

at any rate, yah he's the best!

and ps as far as I know i dont think you can get access to his lects unless you are enrolled in the class or webprep??

But I assure you it's worth every last cent! Kaplan OVERALL was pretty good. I hope it takes me to the promised land...we'll see in about a month 🙂

I would have paid double the amount Kaplan charges to have Barone teach all of the subjects. Seriously amazing. He should be a motivational speaker, he makes you actually want to go to class and study this stuff.

A friend of mine is using the Kaplan Webprep and he told me that the guy's voice sounded funny. Does Barone have a funny sounding voice?

Barone is the best. Make you want to go into Pathology. Ask him how he got into his private practice.

Barone is the bomb. He's much better in person than on Webprep. It was funny -- after the course ended last year, I felt a deep connection with the guy, like he really cared about the students and how he was willing to make a fool of himself so that we could remember the material. That's strange for me considering that I'm a stoic guy, and it's tough for me to feel real emotion.

During the breaks, he would go over the pictures in First Aid, and point out the "important images" and even some of the errors in labeling. Definitely a real stand-up guy.

What made Barone different from 99.9% of your regular old teachers is that he interjects "life vignettes" into his lectures. During these vignettes, he shares stories -- often funny or ironic-- that have nothing to do with the material but that keep students awake. He understands that learning occurs in a cyclical fasion, and during the downtimes, it's more advantageous to perk student's attention with "alternative entertainment" than continuing to feed information when attention span is down.

He also has an amazing ability to simplify complicated concepts into information that you could actually use.

All of you that have had him for live lect. ALL i have to say is Coagulation cascade, Kidney, and Leukemias. Who else can put all of that into ONE page each and make you remember it all?

Barone ROCKS 😀

p.s. Guys dont forget the A 😉 Remember whenever we see each other on the wards, we'll know we're part of "barone's medical mafia" by the display of the A

Agreed, Barone has a unique voice. He has some great stories too. If you check out the endocrine lectures he explains where the word "cretinism" came from to describe patients. His mneumonics are a gold mine. He looks kinda like one of the greasers from the movie "Outsiders".

so are his web prep lectures as good (in terms of material) as the real lectures?

Aand the live lectures--are you guys talking about the 7 week course? Where was/is it? Doesn't that take up so much of your time out of the day--i would think it's so hard to study after that cuz you're so drained. I am stil debating as to whether i want to take one of those. My path is really week so i'd like to but i can do really well on my own too. I'd appreciate your guys' comments--thanks.

Barone's webprep lectures are the extra dry version of the reallife lectures. In my above post in this thread i gave goljan audio higher marks than barone's webprep. I was blown away by barone in reallife. By far one of the best lecturers I have ever seen.

Does anyone know where Barone teaches? I wasn't going to take kaplan but if i could have someone who is very animated, i would take webprep for those classes. how many classes does Barone actually teach? also, i am suprised people have not taped him yet like they have goljan.

so is there only one goljan audio lecture out there, or are there difft ones (like from difft years with slight variations)?
