Hello SDN gang,

I need to decided between Barry University's 1 year BMS program and Rosalind Franklin's BMS program. I am also on the alternate list at Mount Sinai for their BMS program. I live in CT, so location-wise Mount Sinai would be ideal if I got in off the alternate list. I am interested in applying to Osteopathic School after the post-bac program.

Could ya'll give me your opinions of the programs - what you've heard, how great a program, etc.?

Thank you very much for all your help!

I have a similar decision to make. (well, I've already made it, but I will elaborate why)

Rosalind Franklin - SUPER HARD. The medical school classes are HARD HARD HARD from what I read about it, and you need to be able to beat the field of gunners to be in the top 10% of the class. There is no pass fail, the courses are given grades, and Rosalind Franklin is a lower ranked medical school. SO, everyone there, both the BMS and the medical students, are all struggling to reach the top of the class.

You need to have the gunner mentality, and BELIEVE you have a bigger gun than the other students. Did you cram for classes in undergrad and get higher grades than everyone in the class, including your premed peers? Did you cram for the MCAT and nail it? Did you consistently get the highest grade, every single time, in classes where you consistently studied? Then you are suitable for RFU BMS. You need to be more than smart...you need to have the talent for winning at academics.

If you've got what it takes, the reward is simple : last year and the year before, half the survivors...or about 37 people out of the initial 90-100 in the BMS class...were accepted into RFU for the very next year. No glide year, just medical school. You are guaranteed an interview.

If you FAIL...meaning you don't BEAT 90% of the medical students in half of the classes (they say you need about a 3.6)...you have nothing. You have bad grades from a low ranked medical school. Go become a D.O.

Barry University - Much easier, but you have to wait until you graduate the program to then wait a full year to get into medical school. AKA "glide year". OR, you can go to St. George's University in the Carribbean... a "linked" program. I've probably already been accepted to St. George, so I get nothing from going to Barry. I didn't bother to apply there.

Finally, I got in to Tufts. Same deal...glide year for sure.

I'd rather risk it all and save a year of my life. But, this is because I am that type of person. I am looking forward to this challenge. Tell me what you decide, so we can meet up at Rosalind.

so i just received my acceptance and was wondering where abouts in chicago the school is located in relation to the big cities. I am from Toronto and have no idea where to place this school....help please!!!

It's about 35 miles north of downtown. Some students live in the northern part of the city and commute. It's about an hour metra ride to school. There is a shuttle that picks up students from the train station twice in the morning and then shuttles back to the train in the afternoon/evening. Milwaukee is about 45 miles north.
