I *think* it is required but I'm not sure - surely it would say optional if it was optional. But you never know.

Not necessarily, I am pretty sure that WashU's essay about 'special circumstances' or something was optional, and it did not specify that it was. The Baylor essay had the same vibe, so I don't know.

just put something interesting about yourself in the box(that they might not know from your PS). It doesn't have to be very lengthy.

Giving the ad com more info about you won't hurt (as long as you make it insightful/interesting). In my opinion, I think you should fill it out.
