The poverty simulation course is designed to simulate life in poverty in Western Mass and specially in Springfield. It attempts to justify why Baystate sometimes has to engage in unethical conduct and break the law because they serve an impoverished population.
I would recommend against it unless your brain is numb. It's also the reason why Baystate residents and fellows fail the Board Exams every year because they are too busy doing poverty simulation.
I have never seen another program leadership that has to fly to a different country to recruit residents because they do not fill their spots. Unless you are a DO at the lower end of the spectrum or an Irish grad and have only one or two residency interviews and desperate to land a residency spot, I do not see why you would decide to train at Baystate.
