Hi,

Does a Physical Anthropology course contribute toward BCP GPA? In the 2015-2016 ADEA AADSAS Course Subjects document, Biological Anthropology is listed under the Biology section. It seems that people online use the terms 'Biological Anthropology' and 'Physical Anthropology' interchangeably, but the document does not list Physical Anthropology explicitly under any subject. Anyone have an idea about this course? Any input is appreciated.

I would imagine that it would not count towards your BCP. However, if you're interested in the course or have already taken it, I would mark it down on the AADSAS application when applying within the category of something like biology and hope for the best.

In my college, anthropology courses did not count towards the science requirement. I believe that's considered a humanities course in most places.

YES, it counts as a Biology course and therefore contributes to your BCP GPA. I listed my Physical Anth course as Bio when filling out the app (because as you said, Biological Anthropology = Physical Anthropology). AADSAS accepted it as a Biology course when they verified my coursework/gpa.

What a college counts as science has no bearing on what AADSAS counts as science. Physical/Biological Anthropology counts as Bio under AADSAS designations, as does Cognitive Psychology, even though neither are usually taught in the Biology dept. Animal Behavior, on the other hand, is often taught by the Bio dept but does not count as a Biology course by AADSAS, evidently.

Ah, I forgot

That's right! I forgot the AADSAS list of courses categorizes things differently. I took an anthro class that was listed as non-science, but didn't know physical anthro was classified differently. Sorry about that!
