I know this type of question has been posted ad nauseum, so my apologies in advance. Third year student, middle of class, medium to lower tier school, step 1 214. Possible to match at a community program? No rad program at my school. Away rotation recommended? Thank you.

You could always try to rotate at a community program where you want to go, take Step II early and rock it, and try to get good letters. It's certainly not impossible. Good luck.

1. research - get involved in a project or 2

2. take step 2 early

3. do aways and make connections

4. apply broadly - avoid the top programs, apply mostly to community programs and low tier unis and include less desirable locales.

5. list prelim medicine programs at the bottom of your primary rank list as a backup if you dont match as long as you dont mind doing medicine instead. or think about another less competitive specialty as a backup like anesth.

Funny how many in the medical profession hate to face future prospects of competition. FYI, knowledge=power. The more you know, the more you will be prepared to avert any adverse changes that may come your way.

I am well aware of that and I can still make money at it. How will you do it, when an indian doc does it for 1/20th of your salary?

My wife is an anesthesiologist. She runs departments staffed by MDs and CRNAs. She closely supervises CRNAs and will never be replaced by them.

Out of the country radiologists must be US trained and mostly board certified. They will never work for so little (1/20th) since they can make much more in the states, where thers is a shortage. Night hawks located in Australia, Greece etc. are manned by board-certified American radiologists.

No need to worry about Indian docs in Bangalore or Bombay replacing US rads.
