I use a headband lamp that is much better than the standard LED light. I use a 3 watt Luxeon LED headlight. It runs on 3 AAA batteries enclosed in case which rests on your occiput. It's also great to use when you ride your bicycle at night
🙂
If you need a headlight, see to it that it has a Luxeon LED Bulb. It is the second generation LED and is really worth the money. These bulbs have a burn time of 10,000 hours and run for about 8 hours continuous on regular AAA batteries. They also don't get hot.
FYI, late model composite curing lights use Luxeon bulbs, so it makes sense to turn your headlight off if you are packing composite, although I really doubt if it will cause immediate polymerization from a distance.
While at Wal-Mart, you might want to check out the lighted mouth mirror at the dental care aisle. It is made by GUM and comes with a "scaler" and "explorer" tip--well at least there is a resemblance.

It'll cost you $4.50 or so.
The light is regular LED and batteries are disc-type, like those for hearing aids. That makes the mouth mirror light (in weight, pun not intended). Be sure to peel off the protective film covering the mirror or you'd think something is wrong with your loupes.
Hope that helps.
