"describe the setting in which you envision conducting your medical career"
Does anybody has a good idea of what could be a good answer to this question? Are they asking if I want to conduct medicine in underserved areas or not? How else can u describe a setting, Im not sure if i know how to answer this question right.
Thanx guys

Underserved..private practice vs. hospital setting..clinical research in academic medicine vs. only seeing patients...urban vs. rural...conservative vs. liberal.... There are a lot of variables you can use to flesh out your essay. Just be honest and say the place with the lowest malpractice :scared:

They are most likely looking for you to explain how you will use your medical and doctorate degrees to conduct research/practice medicine. How are you going to balance these two careers? How will the training you recieve in medical and graduate school help you do this?

I may be wrong about this, but I don't think they are looking for an answer like, "I would like to start a family practice that serves underprivillaged communities." And they are definitely not looking for "I would like to dedicate 80% of my time to a private practice while putting the rest into running a lab."

No, but tedrik, im sorry but i should have been more specific. This is actually a question from the part of the application that goes to the MD committee in case u wanna be considered for the med school if not accepted by the MSTP. So i presume these pple are not very interested in me explaining the use of both medical and doctoral experience, but probably focus only on medical experience, and yes, their mission is to primarily train physicians that will serve underprivilleged areas. Its a tough one when u are applying to MSTP but u also wanna be considered for the MD, u have to like totally write different essays. Im getting frustrated totally, ill figure out something🙁
Thanks

That's a crappy situation nadica. I would argue to be true to yourself. If you don't get MD/PhD, you can still do academics and research with the MD degree. I would state that your primary mission is research, and if you don't get into a MD/PhD program that you plan to apply internally to a school's MD/PhD program or use your MD degree to do research. To do otherwise would just be disingenuous. Besides, how much can this one committee's rec hurt you anyways? Still, I would hope they would understand what you're setting out to do.

Okay now I see. Those MD application questions can ask you to explain things that end up being contradictory to what you write on the MD/PhD supplements. You're probably going to find yourself walking that fine line through a lot of your secondaries. Sorry I misunderstood your question, but I'd go with what Neuronix said.
