What is the best dental school in the US? Maybe a top 10-20 list would be great. If there are no official rankings, which is what I'm hoping for, would anyone be willing to rank them for me because this might affect where I go for my UNDERGRAD. Yes, I'm in high school. Also, does anyone know anything about the florida dental schools as far as quality?

Hey man, best of luck. We were all once in high school too :)

But seriously, try a search for this info. Its everywhere.

In short:
There is no ranking.
Best undergrad is a 7 year guaranteed acceptance program. IMHO.

IMO, the "best" ds is the school that is best for you as an individual. I know, I sound all touchy-feely, but it is so true. I never believed this sort of thing until I was knee-deep in ds and had very few alternatives.

It sounds like you still have a while to contemplate where you want to go to dental school. Right now just focus on doing well in High School and Undergrad.
If you are interested in what various programs have to offer, this link might be of some benefit.

The BEST dental school is the one that best:
1. fits who you are
2. gets the best value for your money, aka the cheapest

That could your state school or a private school that you think is really, really great :)

These boards are an endless trove of info.

First, seek out those schools online that you're interested in or heard good things about.

Second, do searches on those schools here at SDN - you'll learn tons of inside info.

Third, realize that everyone changes their mind...you still have a LONG way to go! Don't sweat it at this point too much. :)

the one you get into...

I guess if your philosophy is the best things cost the most or have a high price tag than look no futher than your top three with the most expensive tuition:

USC
NYU
BU

Listen man....i'm coming from florida so i know a bit about the schools. Both UF and Nova have great dental programs. UF is a bit more established but people are raving about Nova. The faculty is extremely friendly there and they have some of the most modern equipment out of all the dental schools. Although there is no official ranking, some schools clearly seem to hold more weight or "prestige" than others. The Ivy league schools, Harvard, Columbia and Penn for instance, have very high placement into specialty programs. A lot more dental students coming out of these schools will get into specialties compared with students at other schools (this is at least what I hear). If you want to be a general dentist then I really dont think it matters much where you go. Just make sure it fits your own, personal needs.

how much are they? Out of curiosity?

picking a dental school , in my view, is like picking a car. all have 4 wheels and will eventually take u to the same place, albeit they don't all run with the same engine, or share the same in-car gadgets. They don't cost the same either, but they will all get you from A to B (although some will judge you based on what car you drive, but you can't really do much about that.) Doesn't matter where you go to dental school, be it DMD/DDS (or whatever), you will learn lots about dentistry -- but you will also be responsible for life/career-long learning, just like regular car maintainence regardless of what car it is. Having said all that, you first need to have a license before you can drive and pick your car; you high school and undergrad performances are part of that license.

my two-cents...hope it helps..good luck!

Best dental school is of course UCSF
A lot of fun while you're in school. Good name after you got out of school

If you want to do OMFS, my advise is going to a school that affiliates with a big city hospital. You will learn so much at your oral surgery rotation there. I learned so much when I was at SF General Hospital. I heard that the Mass General is also loads of fun if not even better.

The problem is: which one do you get in, and how much money do you want to spend?

Ignorance is bliss...I guess you can never understand, want, or appreciate what you dont have...take my breasts for example. Many laugh and say they are too big but I love them...they provide with me much more than youd ever know ;)

after graduation UCSF grads laugh themselves all the way to the bank knowing the education they received and that they owe 1/2 that of UoP grades.

I don't know what kind of math you guys are learning at UCSF, but both schools are quite expensive. 3 years ago, Arnie increased tuition by 30% for UCs and then 8% each subsequent year. Here are the costs of attendance from the schools' respective websites:

UCSF = $227,379 for 4 years including living expenses
UOP = $290,373 for 3 years including living expenses

Cost of finishing school 1 year earlier with superior clinical skills = $62,994

Honey...just as youve never experienced my big bottom and thus have no clue what youre missing, youve never gone to dental school at a UC. You forget that little thing called financial aid. UC's have Cal-Grants, need based scholarships, academic scholarships and school based loans. Going to public school opens up a "wealth" of financial aid opportunities. Nothing beats getting out of school with no private loans.

Sticker price may be 227k but actual price is far below that around 180k. On the other hand sticker price at UoP may be 290k but by the end of your 3 years your looking at 300k +

I can understand if you dont believe this because like me a description does it no justice you just have to experience it.

As far as superior clinical experience...dont believe everything you hear. However, if it makes you sleep better at night so be it because my beautiful buns and I aint gonna be there rockin you to sleep.

leave something to the imagination. also, anybody who feels like they need to talk about themselves as much as you do...either has self-esteem issues, or is not what he/she proclaims themself to be. good luck with that though.

Oh my... I never knew the lust of my life would be on the SDN network...

cal grants for grad school=heck no
scholarships for ucsf=10k max. uop max=full
avg uop grad income=140k/yr vs xtra yr at ucsf
clinical skill/time in uop is better than ucsf. why? we have 15 row instructors
who say so! i.e cariology.

bottom line for you ms. bigbottom. If you want to specialize, go to ucsf. if you want to do research; go to ucsf. if you want to be the best damn general dentist that any dental school can offer; go to uop.

i like it here very much although it is very difficult at times but doable;)

uop class of 09

case western reserve university in cleveland has a 6 year program.... 2 undergrad 4 dent... maybe look into that to save time and money
