I moved to the US about 1 and a half year ago, since he was transfered by his company. Back in Brazil, I was pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine. I've joined a college for an A.S. degree of Vet Tech but now I'm reconsidering my options since I really want to become a DVM, not just a Vet Tech.

My biggest problem is time: I've already completed most of the prerequisites back in Brazil, such as Microbiology, Genetics and others. I don't want to go through all of them again, just to join Vet School. I'm also not getting any younger. My plan was to join any US college, get my course transcripts evaluated/translated, and complete any remaining prerequisites that are needed. And then applying for Vet School.

The problem seems to be that all schools require VMCAS, and after a quick call with them, they say that they don't do course-by-course evaluation and that my courses in Brazil would be ignored. I even asked them that this would be the case if the US institution approved my courses, they said that it didn't matter, because they didn't process international coursework.

So... this kind of sucks. I had great grades and almost 2 years of tuition. Should I get back and try to validate my diploma later, or should I keep trying? Help?

Im not entirely sure who you talked to or anything or if they just didn’t really understand your question or not, but their website definitely says that you can have foreign courses that weren’t part of a study abroad on your app and you have to get your transcripts evaluated by an outside service and get a report. It also says to check with individual CVMs on their policies because everyone’s different, but if I’m understanding right, you ARE allowed to have foreign coursework on your transcript as long as you get it evaluated. So I’d check with the vet schools you’re interested in and maybe call vmcas back and talk with them again. You can find what I’m talking about on this page, near the bottom

I've initially contacted UF and they just pointed me to VMCAS and got an: "Ask them, we trust whatever VMCAS gives us".

What really worries me is going through another US college to conclude the prerequisites, that accepted my translation/evaluation, and then having then turned down 1 year later by the DVM admission. I would waste another year and lot's of money. 🙁

I know you have to get these courses evaluated by this website, and it costs a couple hundred dollars i believe. If that goes through you are good, if not Im afraid you will have to retake these courses :/
