Best Time to Apply?

Hi Everyone!

I will be applying to Pod school next year (2008), for the admission of Fall 2009. I am a junior and haven't taken the MCAT yet. I plan on taking it next year. I'm a little confused by the website, so if you want to apply for Fall 2009, you could apply before April 2008 for priority...is that a good thing? I heard that some schools have a harder time filling the spots at the end of the cycle, so its easier to get in if you apply later? Can you also apply early and submit your MCAT score later, but do they put a hold on your application? Can someone help me out on this? When is the best time to start on the MCAT and applying to schools to ensure admissions? Thanks for all your help, its greatly appreciated!

apply as early as you can. take the mcat and get that out of the way so its one less thing to deal with down the stretch. the schools admit whoever they see fit, whenever they want. they dont do 10 a month for instance. so once the spots are filled, they are filled. take my advice, apply early!

Thanks for your comment! But am I getting the dates right for applying? If I want to start pod school in Fall 2009, and I want to apply for priority, I should start applying April 2008? Is that how it works?

nope. If you apply in April, most schools will probably think you are a desperate late applicant. The application cycle opens up in September.

That doesn't make sense. How would I be a "desperate late applicant" if I apply in April of 2008 and want to begin pod school in Fall 2009? Then, can someone please explain to me when I should be applying?

Applications for the following fall begin the fall prior to matriculation, no earlier....

So for all of us who are applying for the fall of 2008 ...applications opened early September 2007 (fall 2007)---

So in your case, you are applying for the fall of 2009, therefore applications for that cycle will open the fall of 2008 .. so probably early September..

The best thing you can do is send your recommendations and transcripts a little bit before the opening date and have your application ready...so all you have to do is Electronically* submit it ....

On the AACPM website under admission requirements it says "AACPMAS begins processing admission applications September 1st each year, for FALL Admission the following year. Deadline Dates are as follows: For priority consideration April 1st of each year for the upcoming FALL admission. The FINAL APPLICATION DEADLINE DATE is July 31st of each year for FALL admission of the same year"

Does this mean if you apply Sept 1st (2008) - April(2009), then you will be considered for priority?

Technically yes...

Just apply September 1st and you'll be golden...

The later you apply, the harder it is to get into the top tier schools...they fill up and have smaller class sizes...
