Biden Out of Race

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What does that have to do with tribalism? Everybody gets old if they’re lucky enough.

“In an odd twist, Mr. Dole may confront the issue head-on this week. As majority leader, he said he would bring to the Senate floor consideration of a bill that would allow state and local governments to impose mandatory retirement on firefighters and police officers on the ground that the physical demands of those jobs are especially taxing. Mr. Dole has not stated his position.“

Is this tribalism too?

I think @aneftp was probably referring to cognitive decline of Biden that was clearly apparent to almost everyone except Biden loyalist. Trump is old as well, but he mentally still can govern.

It’s a fake problem with a fake solution. Deportations aren’t that much if at all higher than under Biden or Obama.

All of this is performative in my eyes by both sides except the management of the border itself and some pretty unimpactful procedural legal concerns. People are talking about a “constitutional crisis” as if Donald Trump is rolling tanks through the streets of nyc calling for all democrats to report for inspection.

@We'llBeDoneIn15Minutes

I see that you liked this post. Does that mean you now agree that illegal immigration is a fake problem with a fake solution? Just performative outrage?

As I recall you were a single-issue immigration voter who reluctantly pulled the lever for Trump. Has your opinion here changed?

I'm not trying to bait you or ask a gotcha question. There's some nuance here, of course.

EDIT: actually that might have been emergentmd

Guys... we've got subdeals!

How many subdeals can dance on the head of a pin?
The guy has no idea what he is doing. At some point his BS will catch up with him. He will only have his MAGA base ~35% of the country because nothing can convince these people to abandon him.

Trump said it himself. 'He can shoot someone in the head in the middle of 5th avenue and his supporters will stay with him.'

Including a fair amount of conservatives on this forum.

We live in bizarro world. We could have plenty of kids if we made it easier to immigrate. If we want more kids we could just stop deporting them.

Most of these kids will be dark and brown. We don't want that. Lol

Joking.

Sooooo did we ever find out who was eating the cats and dogs orrrrrr?
Maybe they all got measles.

I think Texas is up to almost 1000 cases, with 2 child deaths and 100 hospitalizations. But hey...yay for freedom?

Remember folks, measles doesn't kill people..
People kill people... specifically people with measles coughing on others

When will you face that your administration also had more than its fair share of idiocy. I mean anti-crypto? Thats like being anti-internet in the middle of the dot-com boom.

Well,

Crypto still hasn't exactly found a legitimate use yet. So not sure it's the slam dunk you think it is.

Trump so far is winning the idiocy race and he's only 3 months in

I'll bite.

What's the legitimate use? I am not saying there never will be one..
Cross border transactions. Smart contracts. Asset tokenization. Not to mention decentralized blockchains like bitcoin are the greatest form of money ever created.

Crypto takes the international banking system and brings it into the future. Right now it takes days to settle transactions globally. Crypto securely turns it into seconds.

How about getting money into or out of warzones and censored parts of the world? Done. With crypto.

Gambling instrument for the masses and a business opportunity for the purveyors. Some people have actually won the lotto.
I think you’re referring to the scam that is meme coins. The top 10 cryptocurrencies right now are legit use case cryptos.

All good niche uses. Only about 1% of Americans use crypto for transactions. Hardly comparable to the Internet.

Someday it might become more useful if the mainstream financial institutions adopt it..but until then...long ways to go

Lmao. Leavitt isn't even wrong! It is a political act and it is hostile, it's also true. Point the finger at the party responsible.
Well, Trump signed his own name on those stimulus checks he sent out. Shouldnt he sign his own name on the tariff increases as well?

Maybe call it a freedom tax

You do realize bitcoins market cap just surpassed google’s? So its now the 4th most valuable asset by market cap. Institutions including countries, banks, corporations are opting in like wildfire daily. Hey man, its your funeral if you dont wanna get on the bullet train. Bitcoin going from nothing in 2010 to 100k per coin in 15 years is a perfect example. But alright dont buy in. More for me. 🙂

Well the restaurants do that with their credit card fees. And that doesn’t deter people.

Obamacare charges a 3.8% surtax and 0.9% surtax and that doesn’t deter people

Just don’t buy the Amazon products if u don’t like the prices.

Don’t make more money if u don’t want to pay Obamacare taxes.

Oh yes, Bitcoin is worth something entirely because it's worth something.

But generally speaking, a form of currency that drastically changes in value isn't that useful for transactions. It would be pretty tough to do business if the value of the dollar fluctuated like that.

Ill use my money for other things that have legitimate uses. I could buy a 4 million dollar apartment building or 10 Bitcoin? I can definitively see and document the value and revenue generated from an apt building to justify that valuation. I can't really see why Bitcoin should be worth 1,10,100 or 1 million per coin.

I have no problems with crypto...I hope it becomes more useful. But hardly comparable to the Internet

its volatile because its early in its adoption. It will stabilize. Even gold has some volatility despite having the most proven durability to date and quite an established history.

I think you are vastly underestimating the usefulness of cryptocurrency. Tokens like XRP have the potential to supercharge global markets in the coming decade. You'll see.

No. We were told we may see increased prices but its worth it for the long term.

How are we going to measure if it's worth it?

Based on what we know now, what is a measure we could both agree on to say it was "worth it" five years from now?

Edit: I think at some point he's going to end the tariffs, show off some mediocre "deals", and declare victory. Assuming that is the case, by what bar should we judge this as success based on what we know now?

Would not have displayed price increase due to tariff.

Shouldn’t that option be available to small businesses with low margins that use Amazon as a “storefront?” It’s a way for businesses to communicate with customers why there is a price increase.

I have encountered at least two instances where I went to purchase an item and upon checking out a “tariff surcharge” was added. It felt arbitrary. One was an online store the other a physical store. I abandoned both purchases.

Consumers should welcome all attempts at price transparency. We are still pretending to be a free market capitalist society, right?
