well they've had 10 years to do something when Osama was alive, no reason to see why they'd all of a sudden do something now.

I'd really like to know how the whole operation played out. I picture he was just chilling in his mansion, watching TV and drinking chai, when his guards were all like "oh sh...they found us." Then they all took out their AKs and got owned.

I think the exact translation isn't "virgins" but "white ones"

And while virgins definitely makes sense and is a likely meaning based on other passages where the word is used, there are other things that make sense also...such as the dried white grapes which in ancient times were extremely prized (this actually fits the context of the passage well because the passage is talking about all the milk/honey/etc that will await them in heaven. So a delicacy fits the passage better than virgins do).

I think it was Sam Harris in The End of Faith who pointed out something along the lines of (paraphrased) "Imagine if these men--who just blew up themselves, their families, and complete innocents because they actually and fervently believed that [out of all the millions of books humans have ever written, that this one was holy and must be taken as literal truth]--show up to heaven and are handed a handful of raisins to go along with some milk."

The Republican establishment and the right wing nuts have been very subdued. The seven dwarfs running for the Republican presidential nomination have not had much to say. I guess there is no joy in Mudville. Oh, and the economy seems to be improving....more bad news along with the demise of Osama.

Not just you, celebrating death is kind of perverse. Especially when pretty much only bad can come from that death. Sure, foreign embassies and the NYPD and LAPD have been put on high alert for retaliation, but I mean, let's be honest about what a victory this is....Obama's approval ratings will skyrocket! 👍

A little bit, in a general "I was taught it's not polite to dance on people's graves" sense. But I can't ignore the fact that he was ultimately responsible for some Very Bad Things, and whatever part of me that was affected by those Very Bad Things finds some solace in this.

It's kind of surreal. I went to Islamabad a few years ago. Weird to know that I was only 30 miles away from him. I wonder what his day-to-day life was like and how such a huge mansion with such suspicious activity could have gone unnoticed for so long.

Its Pakistan man, sources say that Pakistani government officials helped him hide there, but im not sure about that. What I do know is that it is easy to get away with a lot of things in South Asia. Internal security isn't as tight as it is here.

It isn't much different, so forgive me if I meet none of these events with exuberance and pride in my country, or "solace" for that matter.

I'm not judging people for celebrating, but I don't share this particular enthusiasm and I'm not going to pretend like it's a prerequisite to patriotism, or an indication that anybody involved has the correct understanding of justice.

People celebrated after Hitler died, would you say that was unjustified?

I agree with gujuDoc, this guy is a psychopath and I feel no sympathy towards him. What he did was unforgivable.

People said the same thing when the world was after hitler. Til the US was bombed in Pearl Harbor the US stayed out of it as millions lost their lives in Germany. But the attack in pearl harbor was proof hitler was after the world, not just his area of the earth. Bin laden is no different then hitler in my book.

I'm still having a feeling that some important info. is not being revealed. I doubt that they actually buried his body at sea in the proper Islamic way as the news is saying. Obama said he wasn't a Muslim...but he gets a proper Islamic burial?
