So, I know that SUNY Buffalo has an early assurance program where they reserve seats for their undergrad students for their dental programs, to allow them to jump start their career a year early. But I heard that some students from SUNY Binghamton got accepted into this program as well...can someone fill me in?
I thought this program was just for Buffalo students, but am I wrong? Is it for all the students in the SUNY system---including Stony Brook which is known for its science program?

Also, if you do this early assurance program, do you go straight into dental training without a degree?

Do you apply to this program when you're a high school senior, or during college?

What do you have to do to qualify for this program---any minimum requirements such as gpa, SAT, ACT, SAT II, DAT, interview, clinic experiences, etc?

What are some of the disadvantages of these programs, if any?

Sorry I kind of went off on a tangent here. I'd just like to find out more about this program. Even if it doesn't answer any of my questions, if you know anything interesting, or something that would be to my advantage, please post!

thank you!🙂

if the early assurance dental program at ub works the same way for their med school and pharmacy program, i know a little bit about it. i had a friend do the early assurance pharmacy program at ub which was very competitive, but definitely worth it. he had to maintain a gpa that i believe was around a 3.5 with no consecutive semesters sub 3.0 or something like that. i'm sure his sat scores were important in getting accepted into that program. but its sweet because he only did 3 years of undergrad and is half way through pharmacy school only 5 years out of high school. not too sure about other suny schools and their ties with UB.

For UB's early assurance program you would apply after you finish your second year of undergrad. It doesn't matter what school you go to, as long as you have the required number of credits and classes. I don't go to UB and I got into the program, and a good number of people being interviewed with me didn't go to UB either.

If you do get accepted to the program you have to finish out the rest of your undergrad degree while maintaining a specific GPA, take certain courses, get 100 hours of shadowing done, and get certain scores on your DAT's in order to keep your seat.

If you look at UB's website it will tell you the information about the program and the minimum requirements you need to have if you want to apply.

Hope that helps :]
