cerebrum is part of
a)forebrain
b) hindbrain
c) midbrain
d) spinal cord
e) mesencephalon

==> c and e are the same answer so i got rid of those two.
it's not spinal cord, so i have choices of either a or c
i can't find a word cerebrum from kaplan blue book.
but i see it in the picture on page 100.
according to this picture,
forebrain = telencephalon and diencephalon
hindbrain = pons, cerebellum, and medulla oblongata.
this must mean cerebrum doesn't belong to forebrain nor hindbrain.
could someone explain this to me?

ectoderm develops into which of the following?
a) pancreas
b) kidney
c) cerebellum
d) duodenum
e) heart

the list of products of ectoderm i can think of are
hairs, nails, nervous system, lens and retina of eye, and teeth, but none of them are on the list 🙁

Hint: Telencephalon (cerebrum)

Hint: cerebellum >> Neural Tube >> brain (rhombencephalon, mesencephalon and prosencephalon)

According to Kaplan Brain Picture on page 100.
telencephalon is in front of the brain and cerebrum is at the top of the brain

are u saying that ectoderm become brain`?~?~?
I thought that ectoderm => usually outside
endoderm => usually inside
so i think this logic should lead to that endoderm becomes brain instead.

I think I gave you enough hints. You should be able to figure out the rest.

If all you ever want to depend on is rote memorization without thinking anything out further with some common sense, you're not gonna get far. Granted, you are studying for the DAT 2 years in advance so you can memorize enough crap and ask enough questions on SDN to have everyone on here tell you exactly what you need to know to get amazing DAT scores, but if you rely on that being the case in dental school...well, you're not going to make it.

The dude who posted above me is right. The hints are clear. if you can't figure it out on your own without further help, you don't deserve to understand it.

The cerebrum is part of the forebrain, and the ectoderm also gives rise the nervous tissue, hence the brain.

I guess that means there are two cerebrum

I can't believe I wasn't thinking about CNS and PNS when I said nervous system. 🙁

*applause* You win the prize... seriously, you can't memorize the blue book since it's impossible to memorize 700 pages of facts. Gotta learn to apply things to succeed just to summarize djefferyt's blurb. And no, the blue book isn't wrong, but you can think that endoderm makes up the brain if you really want to...

by the way, you guys don't need to make snide comments... 👎

Remember:

Ectoderm: External-derm

so yeah you can remember things like: skin, nails, hair, eye, retina, mouth, anus, and epithilium of nose... because those are all on the outside.. but how do you remember nervous tissue?

Ectoderm is how you Act (think british accent and pronounce more like Ect).. so your brain controls how you Act. 👍

I use asian accent and pronouce more like Ict

first question: the answer is B

the hindbrain is the posterior part of the brain and consists of the cerebellum, the pons and the medulla. PG 620 kaplan white book

Second question: answer is C

cerebellum is a part of the nervous system so ectoderm!!!

apparently after so many hints given, people are still getting the cerebrum question wrong. heres to making it easier for you peeps. B is not the right answer. good luck

I understand that telencephalon is cerebrum and that must mean cerebrum should be forebrain.

But!!!! if you look at the page 100 in Kaplan blue book, there is a picture that points posterior brain(frontal lobe area) and says telencephalon, and then another arrow points parietal lobe area and says cerebrum. They are two different regions and that's why the hint confuses me even more.

Your right...the comment was snide and I meant it to be. This isn't the first time this particular predent has been confused by a question because he is following rote definition memorization. I'm trying to make this clear to him that he can't expect every question to be perfectly black and white and based upon the definition as written in Kaplan, or Schaums, or whatever. He, and all of us, need to be able to think and use our common sense to put two and two together.

I'm not saying he shouldn't ask questions and get help. It's great to ask questions, but SDN isn't going to be there on the DAT or the Boards for him to ask help whenever he needs it. Some of this he has to work on out on his own, and I felt the first couple replies were pretty on target with helping him.

Maybe I've got a slightly tainted view of the OP since he also started a thread about penis size on this forum that has now evoked more than a few racial remarks, so I'm harder on him, but that's how I feel and that is how I will respond.
