what is a good source to study for bio if u want to score in 20s. Can shaum's alone do the job?

I thought the kaplan book did pretty well, but you might want to look at your old biology book for a supplement to the plants/photosynthesis stuff....thats what I did and I got a 28 in biology.

hey bspeedy

just wondering, did you see a bunch of plant questions on the exam? esp. all the taxonomy of it and stuff? great job on your bio, thats the best ive heard of! did you use campbells book? and just for the plant stuff or for other stuff?

Actually, I saw quite a bit of taxonomy stuff on my DAT, and more plant stuff than I would have expected. Both subjects are not my favorites, but I used the Kaplan book with Campbell. I like the Campbell book (whatever edition), and complements kaplan well. I am no botanist, but knowing the underlying principles or plant function and familiarity with structures allows you to narrow the choices down pretty well, even if you get more of those questions than expected. But by all means I would not let yourself assume that plants, taxonomy, ecology will be too minor to focus on. If ya do, you will be sitting in the testing center cursing at yourself.

I used kaplan and my bio notes from class. Scored a 22

I woulnd't suggest just relying on kaplan.

i didn't have a single question on plants or ecology on my bio section. the DAT is so unpredictable - bio at least. based on what everyone on this website always says, i was SURE my whole bio section would be full of that stuff....i ended up focusing too much on it while i was studying. if you are pressed for time, try to study the stuff you DO know as well as you can, so you are at least assured those points--because they can really get you with awkward wording. don't try to learn any crazy new topics unless you have a good chunk of time left. if that's the case, get the Schaum's outlines. when are you planning on taking the DAT?

in a few months..plenty of time right now

Why on earth would there be anything about plants on these darn tests, we're studying to be doctors not botanists!

I said aloud in Bio class that I hated plants (bad experiences with photosynthesis, etc. from highschool bio) and my teacher gave me a glare-down because he teaches botany and is really psyched about plants, lol.

Also keep in mind that if you dont have a strong biology background it would do you good to get different sources. I only studied for a month with kaplan and had biology three years prior. I think it would have helped if I studied one book and then gone on to others, like those suggested, in order to memorize but to get more info. You have to gauge how long you want to spend studying and what level you are presently at. good luck though!
