Im working on my schedule for next semester and I'm trying to decide between the two. I couldn't take ochem 2 cause I registered too late and I got in off the waitlist for biochem. I took ochem 1 last spring and I dont know if it'll look bad to wait till the fall or not? I need upper division classes so I was hoping biochem 2 would look good. I'd rather not take ochem but some schools I'm applying to require it. If I can review over the summer should I just wait? I think biochem is WAAAAY more interesting. Tell me what ya think....

More schools are going to require ochem 2 than will accept biochem instead. If you want to set yourself up for the best app you can, take ochem 2. That being said, I didn't and I am going to my dream school. But it probably isn't your dream school.

Take the Ochem II; you'll be covered in terms of the chemistry prereq for the majority of allo and osteo schools.

Keep trying to register for the class you want. Check the registration status every day, and don't stop until the class has actually been in session for a day or two. I've gotten into classes with a full waitlist before because a quarter of the class dropped out the day before it started.

I get to register the first day possible cause i have a degree. I was a transfer student so I didnt register soon enough. I plan on taking ochem II but I just wanted to know if biochem II would look good as an upper division class. Ill probably just do ochem II to get it over with.

Ochem II topics will come up on the MCAT. Things like aldol rxns, acyl substituions, and acyl additions show up on the OChem portion of the MCAT.

Im taking it in Jan so it wont help much. But do I NEED the lab? The say 8 cr hours and I have 5 already plus the from ochem 2. So many choices for how to do my schedule....it sucks

On a related note....It is strange to see that some schools will accept biochem 1 for organic 2 when these classes dont have that much in common.

I would do ochem 2, just to widen your net because more schools require ochem 2 than do biochem

Organic II topics are regularly tested on the MCAT as well.
