is biochemistry II very important to have under your belt to do well in medical school or will the biochemistry I class suffice?

i'm a post - bacc, so i don't need/want to waste time or money taking classes that i will not need to be successful

thanks!

most schools only require 1 semester of Biochem. Would it hurt to take Biochem II? Heck no. Is Biochem II a necessity? Heck no. It's up to you if you should take it or not.

I'm a biochem major so I had to take II. For me, biochem II was all of the metabolism cycles in the cell: TCA, glycolysis, e- xport, etc. Was an interesting class, definitely but I don't know of schools that require 2 sems of bchem.

perhaps more than any other class biochemistry is veeeeeeeeeery different from school to school. It's pretty much up to the whim of the teacher what they want to emphasize in it. 1 semester of biochem would be a good class to take because many schools require it. The second semester would be a good idea if it interested you/you needed another class. Take the class if it interests you, don't expect it to be THAT helpful for med school biochem.

depends on the focus of your undergrad biochem II course. in med school, you will only study the biochemistry of the human body, not of all living organisms on earth.

thanks, great point.

Any good review books for Ug biochem?

Yes, the biochem was easy to understand in it. I was trying to be funny, but obviously failed. That's my sign to go to bed.
Sorry... Im dense sometimes.

Haha.. (I hope tha tmakes you feel better?)

Do med schools require one semester of Biochem lab as well as the class? The Chem Department at my school offer the biochem class and lab as seperate. I go to University of Michigan Flint.

Thanks!
