I just called UNLV since AADSAS is showing that they are still waiting for additional information for my file. The admission rep told me that they require LOR from two science professors and I already mailed them (from AADSAS) one from my bioinformatics prof and one from my bioengineering prof (also my faculty advisor), both from my grad school. They told me that they don't consider bioengineering as a science class therefore I have to send another letter to them by Feb 1st. Anyone had this problem with UNLV before? I wonder if it is worth it to beg for another LOR at this point since I am not even sure if the class was full already... any advice?

I actually had a problem with UNLV and LOR's last application cycle. My application sat incomplete for a long time and I had no idea. I already had 2 science LOR's and one from a dentist but they told me that they needed one more from a professor. So I went and bugged a professor to hurry and write a letter and send it immediatly. As soon as UNLV recieved the letter and my file was complete, they denied me. So getting the letter was an unnesessary headache. If your an out-of-state applicant I wouldn't waste your time, if your in-state then that's a different story.

Vegas was the best school to work with. Make sure you send them the LOR directly and don't be afraid to stay in contact with them, it may even help.

The class isnt even half full. I was told 20 people have been accepted, with half of those being in state, so that still leaves about 30 spaces for out of state applicants to fill, and they are still interviewing.

I'm not attending UNLV so I could provide some unbiased comments.
I've been to UNLV's admission office many times. And they are all very nice. I went in, sat down and talked with the dean, director of admissions for half an hour. Nowhere else did I get this experience. If you have a question, just call and ask.

Some schools have become very irrational about such matters. I just got a letter from UDM saying that b/c my Ecology and Evolution profs wrote me my LOR's, they are not acceptable!! eventhough they both were grad level courses in biology department. Their letter is in my shredder now.

If you like that school badly enough, you should ask another prof for their LOR. good luck.
