Hi SDN,
So I'm registering my schedule for fall, and I'm little bit concerned about my course load. Does it seem doable to take biostat + physics + honor organic chem all at once along with english course?
I'm not a math person, and have no idea how difficult physics is (never bothered to learn it in HS). Top that with the monsterous course ochem that people complains about.
I can take biostat off and take it in summer, but I really want my upcoming summer dedicated to research/activities.

Any tips regarding those three course are appreciated

How are we really supposed to know your study habits?

Do you think that I can squat 250 today? ...you see my point?

More importantly, can you bench 245 today?

Seriously, he's right. We dont know how difficult classes are at your school. For example, I look at it and see a very easy courseload. But Im also very good at math and chemistry. For some people, this may be hard.

I'm asking in general. Are those courses impossible to ace in one semester? If someone took Gen chem, gen bio, calc, and physics in one semester, it will be difficult/challenging for them no matter what is their study habbit. My concern is that biostat, honor ochem, and physics may be ridiculous combination and that I should drop one of them.

If we're talking about in general and whether it's doable or not, I'd say yes. Here's what it looked like when I took OChem.

The semester I took OChem I:
English - A
Psychology - B
OChem - A
Physics (Mech/Heat) - A
Calc III - A

OChem II:
OChem II - A
Bio I - A
Physics (Elec/Mag) - A
Physics Upp Div - A

Physics is relatively easy if you get the basics down. The only three things you really need to know are AvgVelocity, Momentum Principle, and Position Update. If you know those three things, you'll be golden. I will say that OChem II took a bit of my time because of all the mechanisms and the ACS Final.

Just a note. When I took Physics (Mech/Heat), it was the first physics class I had ever taken. I didn't take it in HS either. I would say that is a blessing in disguise. HS Physics teaches you kinematics rather than real physics reasoning. If you use the principles I mentioned earlier, it'll be much easier to learn.

Thanks man! thats what I was looking for

Yes, it's possible. I took orgo, physics, bio, all with labs, and an insanely difficult graduate course, for a total of 15 hours in one semester, and got a 4.0. Your mileage may vary. I was in an organic suplemental instruction session every day that it was held. Plus the physics, even though it was engineering physics with calculus, was really easy to me (well taught). It's difficult to say how hard your individual courses will be.

My understanding is that while your overall GPA is more important, adcoms do take into account difficult semesters.
