bit tongue... what to do?

what do you do for a patient who bites their tongue? it left a good gash in the middle of the tongue, kind of like a 7.5mm flap. fairly deep. do you need to suture it?

not pure anesthesia, but could happen with intubation too...
 
Most of the times you don't need to do anything if the laceration is well approximated, the tongue is highly vascular and heals quickly.
I would still get ENT or Oral surgery to look at it if it is a big laceration and for documentation purposes.
Next time place an oral airway 😉

Should never happen with intubation.
 
ok i consulted my OMFS friend. he said do nothing. oh yeah, the tongue was my own. still hurts.
