If a DO student does an MD residency (from the start, no Osteopathic Internship), can they become board certified?

If so, are they certified by AOA or by AMA?

If you do a MD residency, you can be board certifed by the AMA, Not the AOA

There is an exception to the rule, called reentry pathway, the AOA is allowing DO who did a MD residency to take the test to be board certified by the AOA if you entered residency prior to oct 1999

The ABMS board certifies successful applicants from ACGME residencies.
