Looks like you had this situation coming. Why would you put "minimal" effort if you had ANY desire of specializing? Sorry, I'm actually saying what everyone is thinking. Good luck.

I did what I felt it took to make a 90. I was not shooting for a 95 or anything like that. I guess I should have, in retrospect. I just screwed up one section, and that section was my strength...go figure. If I had done well on that section, which is what I expected, I would have surpassed my goal.

So, I guess what you are saying is I have no shot at getting a decent residency or any residency with that score which would mean I need to retake it? Or, is there some other point that you are trying to make?

Perhaps I am missing it here. Has ANYONE, anyone being a student who took the written part I on July 11th, received, in the mail, their scores? Not heresay from faculty, but directly from the good ole ADA? I'm taking off out of town this weekend and I'd kinda like to know if I should hold out til Friday afternoon before I leave.

24 "A's" out of how many students? Either way, that seems like a very high number.
Yeah, very hig indeed. That number represents more than a third of the class if you can believe it

I'd say that you still have a great chance, although some of the other applicants you will be vying for positions against will have higher scores than you (obviously).

I especially wouldn't worry about a prosth. program--they'd crawl all over each other to get to you.

"No shot" is a little more than what I was saying. You still have a chance at some specialty, although I think you've made your next few years a bit tougher than they could have been. My point was that you should have thought about this a few months ago. It sounds like you have other things going for you though, so keep up on that and you should have a decent shot at something. I wouldn't retake it unless you have a lot of extra time. An 89 is a fine score. Good luck.

I'm with you gonnabdds, I am having regrets of my own. I was actually shooting for a 75; only studied the week before looking over school handouts and the most recent 3 released exams. I came out of the test thinking I had completely failed, so I was completely shocked when I got back an 86.

And that was only due to a miserable 77 in anatomy; the other 3 scores were hovering just above and below the 90 mark. It really makes me wonder how I could have done if I had put some effort into it. I am pretty set on general dentistry (although I have had some crazy fleeting thoughts about prosth) so I didn't feel that hunting the 90 was worth my time. But now it seems that it would have been a pretty achievable goal. In any case, it would have given me my choice of GPRs. There is NO WAY I am going to retake it, but I do regret not working harder.

If you do decide to retake, be absolutely sure you can do better. I can't imagine a worse feeling than working your butt off for the next 3 months and getting back an 88.

If I retake the test it will only be with the goal of making 95 plus. I won't make the same mistake again. I will also put in more than three weeks. I just hope I don't have to retake it.
