We get $750 a year. Can use if for books or meetings. But, if you are a presenter at a meeting all your expenses are paid by the department outside of your book money.
Here at OSU (The Ohio State University) we receive $1250.00 per year of which $750.00 can be rolled over to the next academic year. Also, if we present at a national meeting we receive an additional $1000.00 over and above our book fund for various travel/registration expenses.
Programs have different values for this. Some have an increase each year (i.e. more $$ 2nd year than 1st year). Some have separate travel funds. Some allow the funds to be used for computer purchase. Some will give you certain books free of charge at the start of training. At least one program, and probably others, will add money to your book fund if you do extra, "undesirable" rotations like night call, above and beyond your requirements. Most programs have this info on their websites or will respond if asked.
If I remember rightly, we get $1500 first year, $1000 second year plus $1500 for a computer and something around $1250 each of third and fourth years. We have a one time $1000 fund for meetings. We also get $500 per presentation at major meetings. The nice thing is, our fund can be used for travel and other expenses (medical license fees, professional memberships, boards fees) as well.
