Boston Help - Tufts Canine and Feline Genomics Conference

Hi.

Not sure if any of you are attending the Tufts Canine and Feline Breeding and Genetics conference, but I am (I am presenting a poster)...

Anyway, if you are .... visit me...

I am looking for Boston help. The conference is at the Omni Parker House.

I need help figuring out where to stay. I don't want to pay $239+ per night (2 nights) for a conference I have to pay for, but don't know Boston at all...

I am taking Amtrak, so I would like a hotel easy to get to from the train, and easy to get to Omni Parker, and cheap.

Any thoughts?

The Boston Park Plaza Hotel is nice (just found it on Expedia from $123 a night). It is close to the Arlington T stop--although personally I hate the green line--and only 1 mile away from the Omni Parker House. It's got a lot of history behind it too. Most of the other options nearby downtown are $200+.

Your other option is to look further out in the suburbs and take the T in.

I am ok with that... Just don't know anything about where to look... And there are so many different areas in Boston.

I would suggest looking into Quincy, Somerville, or Charlestown (all of which are close to the T/buses). Not sure how much hotels are, though.

If you're willing to stay outside the city, you could probably find a place in Woburn or Haverhill much cheaper. The Amtrak Downeaster runs from both cities into Boston on a regular schedule every day - half hour and hour ride time, respectively. The tickets are fairly cheap, and I believe there's also a commuter discount if you buy tickets for multiple days. http://www.amtrakdowneaster.com/

I think I saw some reasonable places in somerville. I will look there. Can I take a train from there?

You can take the T from Davis or Porter.

There's even a cheap Holiday Inn in Somerville that is a 5 minute walk to Sullivan Square (orange line), but the area can be pretty sketchy.

ETA: Nevermind... I just checked your dates, and it's even $245 a night there. 😱

You can look for hotels near any of these stops too.. here's the whole map, sorry if it's been already posted. For price sake, the commuter rail from Billerica to North Station was $20 round trip for me a few months ago.

My sister lives in somerville and I stayed there during my Angell externship. Davis Square is the main hub of Somerville and you can take the T from there into Boston - takes like 20min and is super easy. Cambridge is also very nice with lots to do though maybe more expensive cause of that little college there. I don't know about hotel prices but I really like both areas and they might be cheaper than Boston proper.

Also I know you're considering the T, and the commuter rail may be a little more costly, but it goes out further so if you can find a cheaper hotel it might be worth it.

You might see what you can find around Medford as well.
