Boston University 2012 Application

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I called last week.... They said if you have not received any mail yet that means your status is still the same.... This anxiety is killing me....

if anyone noticed it or not.. but the IV that all ppl got here.. they all have 90+ scores... i highly doubt.. someone under 90 can get early IV call!!

I applied and infact i am a reapplicant. I did not get IV last time.. and my score is under 90..

I also heard that if once u get rejection in BU, they usually do not see ur application.. and call for IV unless u have some miraclous drastic changes in ur CV or so!!

What u guys say?? any chances for low score ppl to fetch an IV in BU???

Can you please share your interview experience in BU? Also, any idea how many candidates were there for the interview?

Hey friends, just to put some light on BU. Today received Interview Invitation for December. I dont know what happened to November. Anyway, I'm sure there will be more Invitations soon. Since some accepted applicants may decline to register in BU, there should be even more places. Keep Faith.
Best of Luck to all of you.

Do they still accept paper based TOEFLs?!

Good luck, great stats!

Can anyone please tell me about some special features about Boston University including the school's renowned faculty members? Thanks in advance.

anyone got acceptance from the second group yet ?

I was just going through this thread and thought of clearing some conceptions/misconceptions about BU. Yes, BU used to have a reputation of considering applicants over 90 in part 1.( I don't know if this is entirely true as I wasn't a student of BU then...).However, as of today, BU has a lot of students who have scores below 90 too. However cliched it may sound like but it is true that they see your application as a complete package.. Its simple- you either have wonderful scores or you have other additional stuff in your profile to make up for it... Observerships, research experiences, masters degree, work experience etc. are a few examples.

BU holds interviews every Thursdays and this should go on till Feb end/ early March..They will not have interview calls from around 15th Dec to 2nd Jan for Christmas break..A distinct change in the curriculum of the batch starting Aug 2012 is that the program is of 24 months instead of the usual 22 months..(No, it isn't turning into a 3 year program, Relax! 😀)

The school doesn't require you to send any additional documents except your CAAPID application until you are called for an interview. Your application is very important for you, but please remember that there are probably 1000 other applicants like you who have also applied in BU. It is wise to call/ email ask about the status of your application once in a while...But its not right to call them up every other day. Just imagine the person in the office receiving calls from 30-40 ppl every day , all asking about the status of their application..Nobody has a grudge against you. You have paid the application fees and it will be reviewed..All their communication is exclusively by email, so whenever there is a change in the status, they do let you know.. There is no formula to calculate your date of interview invite from the day of your application complete/under review email..( I don't blame any of you.. I did a lot of calculations myself but realized it only after i was admitted. Some ppl get invited the next day after application complete/under review email and some get invited six months later..)

I will try to but I'm sorry if I don't reply to all your queries ..I only check this thread sometimes..Good luck to everybody! Have faith and continue your hard work..

I totally agree with you 6789. Candidates with 90+ score deserve to be accepted.Their scores speak themselves about their capabilities, Ya thats true other candidates with lower scores can prove themselves by additonal things, Thats simple. Even I wonder why candidates with lower scores object to this thing. Ofcourse, thats achievement of a candidate to get such a high score in part1 and that too in first attempt, then why it should not be recognized and rewarded. Their high score is the proof of their dedication to their field and they can achieve other things also with same dedication and hard work. I dont say that candidates with lower score are non deserving, they can justify themselves with other additional things but they can not say that accepting candidates with higher score is something wrong.

Received IV invitation today for January 12. Could anybody share the IV experience? Questions, atmosphere? I already had IV at Upenn and it was good, very relaxed and positive, simple natural questions... So, what should I expect from BU?

Hi guys, I received IV invitation for Feb 2,2012. Is there any other person who has the same date?

When had you submitted your CAAPID Application and when did you receive the under review mail from them?

Candidates with 90+ score deserve to be accepted.Their scores speak themselves about their capabilities...

I couldn't disagree more... Extremely narrow minded mentality...

Let me put this way, basic side by side comparison:
Candidate 1: 95 on part 1, 3.5 GPA, 95 TOEFL, recently graduate, did nothing but study for 8 months after graduation for the exam, no experience at all besides production during dental school.
Candidate 2: 76 on part 1, 3.8 GPA, 108 TOEFL, masters on home country, 2 years of experience, and 2 other years of experience in the US, publications and presentations, very limited time to study due to work and two kids to take care.

I'd choose the second one a hundred times over the first one. I'm glad schools look also for diversity, and take many things in consideration (not only a single score), having even the possibility of both candidates described on the example being accepted in the same program! 😉

So, it is my humble opinion that candidates with exceptional credentials, based on their exams+resume+experience+LORs+SOP (and a whole bunch of other things that I might be forgetting right now) deserve to be accepted. 😀

Hey congratulations can u share ur stats and when did u receive the application under review email............this wait is killing me

I agree with u 100% because they need to see a human at the end not a machine only but imagin a student number 3 who has both 😀 hehehe I would take him over the other for sure 😉
I will tell u a story anyway to show u that no one could tell what they r looking after. My uncle used to be in one of the universities commettie and they has a lot of applicants which was impossible to review them all, so the program director told them to remove all the applicants that scored above 95 and below 85 so they would have smaller pool to chose from, and he said that the director didn't want someone lazy ( low grad) or someone who spend all his time behind the books ( high score). This story is real and it was just in one school while other schools would conceded the high score, some school would like to see that u r improving ur self, so no one knows really. But I am sure we r working hard and we r going to reach our goal, everyone has something special, just hope that they r looking for that special thing in u.
Good luck for everyone, we all deserve the best 🙂

@ CAD83:

Dear friend, I like this sentence : "We all deserve the best.." Yes, I am sure, we all here are trying our best to reach our goals in life. Everyone of us has his own story and definitely only God's know the best for us...So God please let your wish be done, not mine...
Good Luck to all my friends

Thank you 6789. You have replied to all of the posts in this thread, though. Everybody should just wait and try not to think disappointingly. I wish the best of louk for all of us 😀

I applied pretty late, in the end of Sept., received "application under review" 5 days later, IV invitation on Oct. 20.
