I am applying to a postdoc position at a college counseling center. One of the application materials required is a "brief writing sample". Anyone have any ideas what they are likely looking for? I'm not sure if this is an assessment report, termination report, progress note, intake?

I had emailed the site to ask and got an out-of-office reply that the postdoc director will be out of office through November, so I thought I would see if anyone here has any insight.

Thanks!

If it's a research postdoc, then they want a sample of research. If it is clinical, then I'm thinking an assessment report. If it is more 50/50, then you might have to flip a coin. 😉.

Or submit both...

Agree with @smalltownpsych with respect to 50/50.

Since you're applying to a college counseling center, I am assuming you will be participating in "clinical" or "counseling" activities.

It's safe to assume the college counseling is seeking applicants with strong writing and communication skills. To demonstrate your clinical thinking and conceptualization skills (and to allow the counseling center director to get to know you as a potential postdoc), you might choose to submit a concise case summary/clinical case note (e.g., Opening Note) as your brief writing sample. You should be the sole author of the writing sample. Make sure there are no spelling or punctuation errors.

Thank you.
