There was a thread a while back that had stats for interviews vs. acceptances for many different schools. Could someone with MSAR post the stats for Brown (for IS and OOS)? Thanks.
According to admissions people, they will interview ~200 people out of ~4500 apps, and admit ~70 for ~30 standard admissions spots. Pretty tight!
Sorry to be nosy, and please feel free to not answer my question, but what are your stats? I am dying for an interview at Brown, but I know I am at the bottom of their totem pole 🙁
I don't know the exact stats at Brown, but they have a very low acceptance rate due to the fact that they get most of their students from the PLME program. It is an 8 year program that accepts students during their senior year of high school. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
). So don't lose hope, it's possible. I'd love to learn more about Brown med, would appreciate any info from people hereDoublecortin,
Congrats on getting an interview at Brown! I'm still waiting to hear. I 've heard that they can send out acceptances as early as November. Do you have to give them an answer before hearing from other schools in March? If not, why do they accept people early? Thanks so much. ANyone else know the answer to this? Please advise.
best,
jaromic
To everyone! If you get accepted early, do you have to make a decision about going to Brown (or any of the schools with rolling admissions) before you hear from schools that don't send acceptances until march? Thanks again.
dude, my stats are pretty similar to yours, and I got a Brown interview (1st invite). So don't lose hope, it's possible. I'd love to learn more about Brown med, would appreciate any info from people here
Hey Doublecortin,
Would you mind giving out a few specifics (nothing too nosy)? When did you hear from Brown? How long was the gap between when you applied and you heard? Did you have to check your status page or was it email? Good luck... nail that interview!
BC
, and was like, "great, another rejection" but it was the address to the website. So I created a login, and after clicking on ten different "check your status" buttons, totally unexpected, there it was:
)Got an interview from Brown for January- anyone from Providence that could tell a little bit about the "feel" of the city, if it is a good place to live, cost of living, etc?
Everyone!Hey dude!
Thanks!
It's actually a pretty interesting story. After I submitted their 2ndary, they said they would mail you a letter with an address to a website(different from 2ndary) where you could monitor your status. Got a thin envelope from Brown after getting 2 rejections, and was like, "great, another rejection" but it was the address to the website. 😍. . . has completed a preliminary review of your application, and we are delighted to invite you . . . 😍
I was complete ~mid Sept, and got the invite in 1 week-10 days after submitting 2ndary
Got the email invite in like 5 days after checking the status page (saved it in my inbox)
Yeah, I also wanna know, is there a night life, like clubs and bars and stuff?
Everyone!

Everyone!
Not to sound like a complete freak, but can you give more specifics about where this message actually was in the status check? Is it near the list of stuff they've received from you or is it when you click on decision? I am a total nerd, I know, but I REALLY want a Brown interview.
And to answer someone else's question, I want one so badly because Providence is awesome and my fiance is interviewing there next week and we really want to move there. Plus, Brown has a very unique curriculum that I am very drawn to. Please, please, please send me an invite Brown!
I got my interview invitation today from Brown! I'm interviewing 1/3. Can someone tell me if this is considered a late interview? I feel that since they accept so few people that my chances are pretty low for them, despite the interview invite.

So what's so awesome about Providence? I am from SoCal btw, is there vibrant night life in Providence? How about salsa clubs, and such, and how about cultural life?
Thanks
Again
Thanks for the good luck. I think I might call them tomorrow to check on the progress of my application. Don't know what else to do at this point to keep letting them know I'm interested.
About Providence, I am not the person to ask about night life and the like. I have only visited the city. But it's right on the ocean and very close to Cape Cod, my absolute favorite place in the world. Plus, it's an hour drive to Boston and very close drive to many other cool places. And the city itself has a really cool atmosphere that's unique. You'll see when you go there. I love the ocean and I love whale-watching and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Cape Cod. I think I would be happier in Providence than just about anywhere.
Pardon my ignorance, but what's so great about Cape Cod?😕
Just reply with exactly what it is that makes you a good fit. For me, it's their inclusive non-discrimination policy, the extensive hospital network since it's the only school in RI and you can go to almost any hospital and see any patient base, and the very early clinical experience being partnered with drs in the area. I also really like the focus on individual projects. Basically, the second i opened their brochure i found like 50 reasons that that school was for me. Leaf throguh it again before you go and find what abotu their curriculum and programs makes you feel that way. And honestly, if nothing does, I'd think seriously about that--they give out so few spots to people applying through AMCAS that if you don't fit, why take that spot away from someone who really really wants it?So being from CA, I guess I should expect this question a lot: " Why not stay in sunny CA, where it never snows, and go to a UC med school, why do you want to move to New England and endure brutal weather 9/12 months in the year?"
How do I dissuade them from thinking that I am likely to stay in CA? Any suggestions?😕😕😕

Got an interview from Brown for January- anyone from Providence that could tell a little bit about the "feel" of the city, if it is a good place to live, cost of living, etc?
live for 15 yrs there, 5 minutes from the place.
Thayer Street = awesome.
huge music scene in providence...it's the center for all of RI (well, at least northern and central).
great, great, greattt city to be in-small, but, as someone pointed out, VERY liberal arts/hippie type (but also very sophisticated, if you'd like) feel.
also, Providence College, RI School of Design, and RIC are also colleges/uni's in providence.
Wow! I love your determination! You surely deserve an invite 👍I'm so excited for you! My fiance is interviewing for a job out there on Monday. I contacted Brown to tell them I'd be in the area (cause I could come out with him) and they got back to me saying they only interview on Thursdays so they couldn't accommodate me if they decided to interview me. So, of course, I replied right away that I am MORE THAN willing to come out any time and Brown is a top choice. Then last week I sent them an update on my employment and volunteering and then threw in a paragraph about the things about them that really fit with me. I am determined to get an interview there!
But I am excited about Cornell too. Those two have duked it out for years for my favorite school. Cornell is currently winning because they want to interview me!
Is there vibrant nightlife? e.g. clubs, bars, dance studios for salsa/ballroom and such?
Thanks😎
Yeah I really am lucky to have that Cornell interview. I seriously can't wait!!

You look like a top notch candidate, you really deserve that Cornell invite![]()
You just made my eyes water! Thank you for the compliment. I think I get so stressed out on this message board because it seems like everyone has done more, has an even better GPA or better MCAT. Plus, not everyone is exactly encouraging to other people. So, thank you. And I think you will find that Providence is awesome, so super good luck on your Brown invite. You seem like a great person, and I'm sure any med school would be lucky to have you!

What are girls like in Providence 😀?

I guess I will answer most of your questions since I was PLME and am a MS1 at Brown Med.
Honestly, there isnt much time to go out. The night life if geared for undergrads. There are quite a few bars/clubs (esp. downtown) but would you want to go to Fish Co. on a Wed night?? Only is you want to hook up with a drunk freshman.....
As for dance studios, Brown does have a ballroom dance group, there are a few clubs for salsa night, and there are "dance parties" that med students have.
It depends on your type...if you want the hippie look then there is plenty, if you want the typical Cali girl look, you would have to go to Southern RI and hang out at URI.
I am from CA and frankly, I hate providence, Boston is so much more fun and when there is time to get out there its worth it (night life is amazing there). The weather is horrible, humidity sucks, snow is only awesome when it first falls...the streets on college hill get plowed only on the weekdays and it ices over a lot and really really really sucks.
Housing out here sucks too. There are a few places that have a central A/C and all the rest screw you over and make you buy a window unit...and trust me, when its super humid and nasty in August and Sept. then you will miss CA weather (and this comes from someone from Fresno where its like 100+ in the summer)

And to the current Brown students- what should a girl do who REALLY wants to interview there and hasn't heard anything yet?
