i just went through the whole book in about 6 hrs. super easy read, good info and helped to clear up some confusing topics. probably not the most detail oriented but that's what FA is for. 👍

Did you do the questions after each chapter? I really enjoyed doing those. Please tell me you've done Goljan Rapid Review Path... it's pretty amazing.

did some q's - they were SO MUCh easier than UW or kaplan.. omg how awesome would it be if the real thing was that easy.. LOL

i tried BRS path for a bit (just to flip through and compare to Goljan) and its deffff an easier read to get thru. the questions are pretty straight forward too, but i just didnt get as much mechanistic understanding. if you have time (who does right?), goljan rapid review is amazing...good luck!

Whatever. I never used Goljan I used BRS path and I did very well.

Sure, I was insecure about not using Goljan because of the peer pressure you so aptly demonstrated for us, but in the end it worked out well. I think if you have a pretty good grasp/performance in path in med school, go through it enough times using multiple sources (BRS, FA, etc.) you'll be in good shape. Goljan is probably a very good book, I'm quite sure it is, I'm just saying so is BRS and it worked wonders for me.

Ditto! BRS Path served me well. Goljan is not at all necessary to get a high score on Step 1.

I've heard of Robbins, but am sticking with BRS Path simply because I've already annotated approx. half of the book w/ cross refenrences to FA+ x-ref w/in the book's chapters so far. It's good to hear about BRS being sufficient, as the format works best for me.

Therein lies the problem for me.... 🙁

I could safely say that I practically had no "pathology course" in my school..... the "course" was THAT bad.

That's why I'm worried I won't get the most out of Goljan/BRS/etc.

I got a BRS pathology from an upperclassman, and they didn't specify what edition it was, and I didn't ask either. Now that I picked it up, it's the 2nd edition from waaaay back.. Worth keeping, or should I buy a new one? It was $5..

Just an MS2 noobcake here, but I have the 4th edition of BRS Path, and I've been reading Goljan RR just to compare the two...and I like BRS Path more. The color pictures in the new one really make it an upgrade from the older versions. Also, the 4th edition appears to be more slim than the previous editions. As an aside, had I not been listening to the corresponding Goljan lectures, I would be really confused trying to read his book by itself. The bullet point format is confusing to me, at least. BRS Path + Robbins Basic Path are great, at least for classwork purposes. I know this is a Step 1 Forum, but I really want to give BRS Path a vote of confidence.

Medical students are characterized for saying that things are black or white. "BRS path is better than Goljan and viceversa". In the end, both books are great. IMHO, BRS path is much better organized textbook that should be used along your 2nd year. It list the facts. OK. However, RR path is important for MECHANISM OF DISEASE, which is a very important part of understanding. I used them both during 2nd year AND board review and served me well. Remember, also, that USMLE questions are being targeted more and more towards "what is the underlying pathophysiology..." type of questions. For this RR path is golden. Good luck all. 👍 .
